Hotel operators and data centre experts lead this week’s review of personnel moves from around Asia’s real estate industry as Frasers Hospitality Trust and Equinix announce new appointments. Also in the news are leadership changes and Hong Kong-listed China South City and Vietnam’s Novaland.
The manager of Frasers Hospitality Trust announced to the Singapore stock exchange on 25 September that it has promoted Benjamin Kuah Hsien Yao to chief financial officer with effect from that same day. Before taking on his latest role, Kuah had served as head of finance for Frasers Hospitality International Pte Ltd. He also has previous experience with Paragon REIT, Nanshan Group Singapore and Stamford Land.
Data centre investor and operator Equinix said on 26 September that it has appointed Haris Izmee as managing director of its Indonesian joint venture with PT Astra International Tbk. Izmee took on his role that same day, and is expected to lead Equinix’ expansion in Southeast Asia’s most populous nation. Izmee has previous experience with Amazon Web Services and Microsoft.
Troubled mainland developer China South City Holdings on 27 September introduced Wan Hongtao as its new chief operating officer with effect from that same day. Wan’s appointment comes as the 45-year-old has been serving as a group vice president and executive director on the board of Hong Kong-listed China South City. He has also has previous experience with government-owned Shenzhen SEZ Construction and Development Group.
Ho Chi Minh City-based Novaland on 23 September announced to the local stock exchange that it has appointed Duong Van Bac as deputy chief executive officer and chief financial officer with effect from that same day. Duong joined the cash-strapped developer in August of last year and has focused on recapitalising the company’s projects as Novaland struggles to recover from Vietnam’s housing crisis.
Hong Kong-listed NWS Holdings announced to the HKEX on 25 September that it has appointed Jim Lam as chief operating and financial officer with effect from 1 October. Already an executive director of the unit of the Cheng Family’s Chow Tai Fook Enterprises, Lam is expected to assist co-chief executive officers Brian Cheng and Gilbert Ho with daily operations of the infrastructure firm.
Ryota Nagao has joined GLP Capital Partners as a senior vice president in its Tokyo office, according to a LinkedIn update. Nagao takes on his new role after more than four years as chief executive officer of Myria Residential, a real estate investment unit of pension fund manager Washington State Investment Board. He also has previous experience with IDERA Capital Management and BlackRock.
The manager of Mapletree Industrial Trust announced to the Singapore Stock Exchange on 25 September that it has appointed Kwok Seat Moey as an independent, non-executive director on its board of directors from 1 October. Currently a consultant with law firm Allen & Gledhill, Kwok formerly served as group head of capital markets with DBS Bank before her retirement from the institution in March of this year.
Colliers said on 26 September that it has established a hotels and hospitality division for the Japan market, with the new business unit commencing operations on 1 October under the leadership of senior director Kei Sumiyoshi. Serving as head of the new division, Sumiyoshi had served most recently as a senior vice president with Deloitte in Tokyo and also has previous experience with JLL and Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank.
