Andy Cheung Resigns as COO of Hong Kong’s Link REIT

2019/10/03 by Jan Kot Leave a Comment

Andy Cheung has resigned as COO of Link Asset Management

The chief operating officer of Link Asset Management has resigned after nearly ten years with the manager of Hong Kong’s Link REIT, according to a company announcement.

Andy Cheung Lee-ming’s departure from the Link REIT was revealed in an release by the manager of Asia’s largest real estate investment trust on Wednesday, with Cheung stepping from his role as an executive director on the REIT’s board on that same day.

The graduate of Boston University and Canada’s McMaster University will continue in his role as the Link Asset Management’s chief operating officer until 20 December, to allow for a smooth transition, according to the official statement.

The fifty-three year old, who was promoted to COO just a year and a half ago, was said to be leaving Link REIT, “to devote more time to his personal and other priorities.”

Existing Team to Take Over COO Responsibilities

“We thank Andy for his distinguished and dedicated service to Link over the past 10 years,” Link Chief Executive Officer George Hongchoy said in the statement. “He played an instrumental role in steering and implementing several key initiatives that have shaped Link’s growth.”

In an email response to an inquiry by Mingtiandi, a spokesperson for Link Asset Management said that the company’s current management team will be sharing Cheung’s responsibilities and that no immediate replacement for the departing executive had yet been designated.

“Link’s management bandwidth is strong with our remaining C-level executives (CEO, CEF and CSO) and other members of the senior management team,” the spokesperson said. “We seek to build our pool of talent at all levels as we continue our journey to achieve Vision 2025.”

Cheung Held Responsibility for Development and Property Management

Cheung joined the manager as an executive director and the chief financial officer in June 2010, and became the chief operating officer in February 2018. As Cheung stepped up to COO last year, CapitaLand veteran Ng Kok Siong took over the position of chief financial officer.

In his role as COO of Link Asset Management, 53-year-old Cheung supervised project and development, property management and operations, legal and other corporate functions.

Cheung has over 26 years of experience in the areas of business development, finance and audit. Prior to joining Link, the certified public accountant was an executive director and the chief financial officer of infrastructure construction firm Paul Y. Engineering Group Limited and an executive director of Hopewell Holdings Limited, both of which are listed in Hong Kong.
