In this week’s edition of People in the News, WeWork continues its senior leadership re-building by bringing on board a former Ernst & Young principal as chief operating officer, while the global community director at Hong Kong’s The Executive Centre relocates to Seoul.
In other moves around the region, Hong Kong-listed casino operator Landing International Development appoints a new executive director, and the former chief financial officer of Yihe Real Estate Holdings joins Redco Properties. There were also fresh hires and promotions at Habitus, JLL and Sakal Real Estate Partners.
Shyam Gidumal has been appointed by WeWork as its chief operating officer, just two weeks after the troubled co-working giant appointed Sandeep Mathrani – who had been CEO of Brookfield Properties’ retail group – as CEO. Reporting to Mathrani, Gidumal will oversee operations for the company, according to an announcement. The Columbia University graduate joins WeWork after parting ways in June with Ernst & Young, where he had led the retail and consumer products market segment based in New York for eight years.
Patsy Li has relocated to Seoul with a new promotion at The Executive Centre where she will serve as an executive director in Korea, taking up the role in addition to serving as the the serviced office provider’s global community director. Li had returned to the high-end serviced office provider as a director in 2017 after a four and a half year stint with AmCham Shanghai as director for business development, marketing and events. Prior to that, Li had worked for The Executive Centre for over 11 and a half years, most recently as a regional director for conference sales, based in Hong Kong.
Pu Shen Chen has been appointed as an executive director of Landing International Development with effect from 19 February, according to a stock exchange disclosure. Pu takes up the board slot after joining the Hong Kong-listed gaming investor’s casino subsidiary, Landing Casino, as executive vice president and chief operations officer in April last year. Pu had also served as the CEO of Macau junket firm Guangdong Group from 2017 to 2019, according to GGRAsia. The graduate of the University of Nevada had previously held executive positions at MGM Resorts International and MGM Grand Paradise.
CJ Lee has been appointed as general manager of investment and financing at Hong Kong-listed Redco Properties Group. Lee has joined the Shenzhen-based developer after leaving Yihe Real Estate Holdings in June last year. The graduate of the London School of Economics and Political Science had served as the Guangzhou-based developer’s chief financial officer for two years, following three years as head of corporate finance and investor relations with Hong Kong-listed Jingrui Holdings from 2014 to 2017.
Peter Boyle has been hired by Habitus as a director of client relations after parting ways with Hong Kong-based architectural practice The Oval Partnership, where he had served as a director of development for two years. Prior to that, the Villanova University graduate served as the director of business development for architectural firm Woods Bagot from 2015 to 2016. Between 2009 and 2014, Boyle had served as director of development with architecture and design companies including BUZ Design, St Legere, and Bilkey Llinas.
Andrew Peck has joined JLL’s Singapore office as a senior director in the Asia Pacific communications team, after parting ways with CBRE in Hong Kong. Peck had served as head of Asia communications for CBRE for three and a half years. Prior to that, the University of Melbourne graduate had worked as a freelance writer and editor in 2016, following three and a half years as a vice president in Bank of America Merrill Lynch’s Asia Pacific corporate communications division in Hong Kong.
Kenneth Chong has been hired by local Singapore investment advisory and brokerage house Sakal Real Estate Partners as an executive director in asset services, after parting ways with Savills. Chong had served as a strata manager for the property services firm for six years, following over a year and a half with e-commerce portal PxiorSquare, which Chong had co-founded. Prior to that, the Singapore Polytechnic graduate had served as a group commercial analyst with serviced office provider Arcc Offices.
Kho Zhen Hong has stepped up to senior manager in transactions at Sakal Real Estate Partners, following seven months as an assistant manager. Prior to joining the local Singapore investment advisory and brokerage house, Kho had served as a leasing and asset management executive for Singapore-based 8M Real Estate from 2019 to 2019. The graduate of Singapore Polytechnic had completed internships with JLL and JTC Corporation between 2017 and 2018.
