Singapore-listed Metro Holdings has named former CapitaLand executive Yip Hoong Mun as chief executive officer for its China operation and chief operating officer for the retail real estate development specialist, according to a statement to the stock exchange.
Yip steps into the top mainland role for the developer of such projects as the Metro City mall and Metro Tower in Shanghai’s Xujiahui area on February 3rd, as Metro tries to stabilise its operation following the death of long time managing director Jopie Ong nearly one year ago.
Prior to joining Metro, Yip had served as Deputy CEO of CapitaLand Vietnam. The 55-year-old spent more than 20 years with CapitaLand, including serving three years as managing director of CapitaLand Indonesia, until leaving in December. Yip also has experience in China as head of CapitaLand’s Ascott serviced apartment division in 2003.
Metro, which started life as a retail operator has extensive holdings in China, including projects in Guangzhou and Nanchang (in Jiangxi province). Metro also has investments in Indonesia and Malaysia, in addition to its native Singapore.
