After completing its takeover of ARA Asset Management three months ago, Hong Kong-listed ESR is adding some diversity to its board, with that update leading our weekly roundup of personnel moves from around the region. Also making our list this week, a fund management division of Hong Kong’s Edward Wong Development has added a new top executive for Singapore and a mainland healthcare investment specialist is ramping up its fund-raising team in Shanghai
ESR announced on 19 April that the company had appointed Kerry Properties chief financial officer Serene Nah as an independent, non-executive director on its board, with effect from that same day. “As a Group, one of our core values is diversity and inclusion and we are very focused on ensuring that the Board fully reflects this to bring a broad spectrum of views and experiences to the table,” ESR chairman Jeffrey Perlman said in a statement. A veteran finance professional, Nah was made an executive director at Kerry Properties in October last year after being named chief financial officer in 2019. Prior to joining the Hong Kong-based developer, Nah had served as head of portfolio management for Asia at SilverLake Partners.
Terence Tang has joined Atelier Capital Partners in Singapore as the firm’s chief executive officer for the country, according to a LinkedIn update. Tang took on his new role earlier this month with the fund management spin-off of Hong Kong’s Edward Wong Development after more than eight years with property consultancy Colliers, where he had served as managing director for capital markets and investment services in Asia until March of this year. Atelier Capital Partners was an early backer of developer Chongbang Group’s Life Hub projects in Shanghai, and has also invested in projects in the US, UK and Canada.
Leah Gao has joined CBC Group in Shanghai as director for fundraising and investor relations with the healthcare investment specialist, according to a LinkedIn update. Gao joins CBC’s team in Shanghai after two and a half years at ESR, where she had served as senior associate director and fund manager with the Hong Kong-listed firm’s capital markets division. The graduate of Shanghai’s Tongji University and National University of Singapore also has experience with ARA Asset Management and Logos Property.
Indian developer Oberoi Realty said on 18 April that it has appointed Sameep Pathak as chief executive officer of its retail division. In his new role with the Mumbai-based builder, Pathak is responsible for leading the Oberoi Mall project in Mumbai after spending just over a year as a vice president of mall operations at BKC Mall Management in the city. Pathak also has experience with developers RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group and Phoenix Mills.
Ian Borchard has joined Swire Properties in Hong Kong as a portfolio manager with the developer’s Taikoo Place complex, according to a LinkedIn update. Borchard joins Swire after just under a year with venture investment firm Integrated Management Systems (IMS) in Hong Kong, where he had served as a venture capital operations associate. The Georgetown University graduate also has previous experience with JLL in Hong Kong.
Owen Xing has been promoted to senior vice president for development and owner relations for Greater China at Hyatt Hotels and Resorts, according to a LinkedIn update. Based in Shanghai, Xing is taking his step up at the US hotel giant after less than two years as a vice president with the same division. The graduate of Hong Kong Polytechnic University first joined Hyatt in 2012 where he has focused on the real estate element of the firm’s business in China.
Alton Wong has been promoted to executive director with Cushman & Wakefield in Hong Kong, where he helps to lead the firm’s valuation and advisory services division for Greater China, as well as serving as co-head of sustainability services for the region. Wong received his latest promotion after more than three years as a senior director with the property consultancy, after first joining Cushman & Wakefield in 2012.
