A top level departure at the biggest name in Aussie finance leads this week’s roundup of personnel moves from around the region, with Korea’s Mastern Investment Management also making a major hire from competitor Mirae. Gaw Capital Partners is on the list too as it welcomes back a former executive who returns after more than a dozen years in the Middle East.
Brett Robson, global head of real estate for Macquarie Asset Management is leaving the firm within the coming months, after more than twenty years with the Aussie finance giant, according to a Bloomberg report this past week. Eric Wurtzebach, currently head of principal investment and management for the Americas at Macquarie Real Estate, is said to be transitioning into the top role with the division.
Mastern Investment Management announced this past week that it has hired former Mirae Asset Capital executive Jakyung Yoon to lead its corporate strategy group. Yoon is expected to lead strategic planning and branding efforts as a vice president at the Seoul-based investment firm with the one-time newspaper reporter having previously served as chief executive officer for Mirae Asset Capital.
Harry Ip has returned to Hong Kong to rejoin Gaw Capital Partners after more than 13 years with the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA), according to a LinkedIn update. Ip returns to Gaw as a managing director after having served as senior portfolio manager at ADIA in Abu Dhabi. The University of London graduate had spent just over year as an investment director with Gaw Capital from 2009 through 2010 and also has previous experience with Wachovia Bank and JLL.
Cushman & Wakefield earlier this month introduced Ross Hamilton as head of Cushman & Wakefield Advisory+, the property consultancy’s advisory services division for Asia Pacific. Hamilton has nearly two decades of experience as a partner at both Ernst & Young and PwC, and will also hold the title of partner at C&W. Hamilton’s new role was announced at the same time that Cushman & Wakefield introduced Christina Hobbes and Alan Herman as partners with its Advisory+ division in Australia and New Zealand.
Souvik Saha has been promoted to director at Oxford Properties Group, according to a LinkedIn update. Saha takes his step up with the property investment unit of the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (OMERS) after nearly two and a half years with the institution as an associate director. The graduate of the Indian Institute of Management in Bangalore and Jadvapur University in Kolkata also has previous experience with KKR and Kotak Investment Advisors in Mumbai, as well as with Deutsche Bank.
Singapore-listed Dasin Retail Trust said on 13 February that it has appointed Wang Peng as its new chief investment officer, with the former Sino-Ocean Group executive joining the SGX-listed trust of mainland China malls that same day. Wang was appointed just a few weeks after the REIT had received letters of demand from chief executive Wang Qiu, chief financial officer Ng Mun Fai, executive secretary Liu Ting and CIO Lu Zhiqi for payment of salaries, expenses and repayment of loans. The REIT has been tussling with its former chairman Zhang Zhencheng since last year.
Colliers has added to its cross-border capabilities with Lucy Mallick recently relocating from Sydney to Singapore to take on the role of international capital lead for Australia. Mallick is tasked with serving offshore capital seeking opportunities in Australia and will report to Colliers’ head of office capital markets Adam Woodward and the company’s Singapore managing director Bastiaan van Beijsterveldt. In an announcement Colliers also introduced Henry Hsu as head of ESG in Singapore with Sebastian Ponniah joining from JLL as an associate director with the capital markets and tenant advisory teams.
TPG has hired former Goldman Sachs executive Scott Lebovitz as partner and head of infrastructure for TPG Rise Climate, the company’s dedicated climate investment platform. Lebovitz joined TPG this month, according to a company statement after more than 25 years at Goldman Sachs, where he had served as global co-head and co-chief investment officer for infrastructure investing at the firm’s asset management division.
Wanda Film announced earlier this month that it has appointed Chen Xi as its new chairman, following a change in control of the company. A former actress, Chen has served as an executive director of Ruyi Holdings and Shanghai Ruyi Television Productions since 2015. Chen will also serve as legal representative of China’s largest cinema operator after Wang Jianlin’s Dalian Wanda Group sold a combined 51 percent of Wanda Film to China Ruyi.
