Promotions at major private equity players lead this week’s review of personnel moves in Asia’s real estate industry, with both AEW and KKR upgrading their teams this month. Also making the list are updates from a Tokyo-listed REIT and a Singapore banking titan.
AEW has promoted Yian Wang to managing director and portfolio manager in Hong Kong, according to a LinkedIn update. In her new role Wang oversees the US investment firm’s value-add fund series in Asia, while also managing investment initiatives in Greater China. The promotion comes after Wang had spent more than six years as director and head of investments for Greater China with AEW, while also serving as assistant portfolio manager.
KKR has promoted Projesh Banerjea to managing director with its infrastructure team in Singapore, according to an announcement earlier this month. Banerjea will be taking the step up from his director role on 1 January. The promotion comes just over two and a half years after the DePauw University graduate joined the US private equity firm following a more than 10-year stint at the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority.
Japan’s Orix J-REIT announced on 9 January that Miki Mitsuoka (pictured) has stepped down from her role as director of the company with effect from 31 December of this year and will become corporate auditor from the following day. The outgoing director is set to be replaced by Hidekazu Kakimoto on 1 January, with the incoming director set to oversee risk management and compliance, as well as the general affairs and accounting department for the Tokyo-listed real estate investment trust.
Banking giant UOB informed the Singapore stock exchange on 13 December that it has appointed Leong Yung Chee as group chief financial officer with effect from from 22 April 2025. Now 51, Leong is taking over the senior position from Lee Wai Fai, who will be retiring from 21 April. Leong first joined UOB in 2016 as head of group corporate banking after leading Macquarie Group’s Singapore presence and also has previous experience with Credit Suisse and Merrill Lynch.
Gelephu Mindfulness City, which seeks to create an urban environment centered around mindfulness, sustainability and innovation in southern Bhutan, announced GLP co-founder and CEO Ming Z Mei as a founding member of the urbanisation project established by the country’s monarch. Mei’s new status comes as his family trust, Humble Holdings, is set to invest in projects integral to the planned city’s development, according to the announcement.
Crystal Wong has been promoted to vice president of asset management at K11 Concepts Ltd in Hong Kong, according to a LinkedIn update. Wong took on her new responsibilities this month after nearly three years as head of retail with the division of New World Development and more than eight years after joining the HKEX-listed developer. Wong also has previous experience with Hang Lung Properties in mainland China and Hong Kong.
Jisoo Yang has joined Invesco Ltd in Seoul as an associate director, according to a LinkedIn update. Yang signed up with the US asset manager after one year with Warburg Pincus-backed logistics startup Qube Industrial in the Korean capital, where he had served as a vice president. The Harvard University graduate also has previous experience with Pebblestone Asset Management.
Leanne Teo has taken on the role of director of marketing, communications, legal and compliance with Knight Frank in Singapore, according to a LinkedIn update. The Singapore Management University graduate started her new role this month after more than a year with rival Colliers, where she had joined as associated director and marketing and communications lead, before being promoted to director in July of this year.
