Much of the region has already hit the beach for the lunar new year holiday, or are stocking up on sticky-rice and other holiday treats, but a few fortunate professionals around Asia managed to secure a new job before the annual festival or made use of the occasion to unburden themselves of working-world cares. At the top of our list of job moves this week, the son of one of China’s richest men gets a new job title for the year of the pig, while a veteran Hong Kong broker gives up leadership of the investment brokerage team at CBRE and JLL says goodbye to a 20-year veteran. Hong Kong-listed Shimao Property Holdings has appointed Jason Hui Sai Tan as President of the mainland developer, adding to the titles of Vice Chairman and Executive Director already assigned to the 41-year-old son of Shimao founder and chairman Hui Wing Mao. The younger Hui, who joined Shimao in 2000, has been an executive director since 2004 and Vice Chairman since 2008. The graduate of the University of Greenwich in the UK and the University of South Australia is currently responsible for the operation and sales of all of Shimao’s projects, as well as for administration and management, according to a statement by the company.
Stanley Wong has stepped down from his position as head of the Capital Markets team at CBRE Hong Kong, according to an internal announcement by the company on 31 January. Wong, who joined the firm in 2012 and was appointed as head of the investment advisory division in Asia’s most valuable real estate market in 2016, is said to be staying on with CBRE’s Capital Markets team and will retain his title as Executive Director, but will now “focus on handling transactions and nurturing client relations for the Greater China business development,” according to the statement from CBRE’s Hong Kong chief Tom Gaffney and head of China, Alan Li.
JLL Tianjin Managing Director Michael T. Hart is leaving the property consultancy after more than 20 years, according to an internal announcement first circulated in mid-January. Hart founded JLL’s office in the northern Chinese city in 2006 and has since expanded the group’s services in Tianjin to 10 business lines. The University of Missouri graduate also has experience with JLL in Shanghai and Taipei and has yet to reveal his future plans.
Ying Khuan Pow has been named Associate for Capital Markets and Strategy at Rockworth Capital Partners in Singapore just over half of a year after joining the private equity real estate investment firm as Associate for Business Development in June of last year. The graduate of National University of Singapore also has previous experience as an Analyst with Knight Frank as well as with Singapore Press Holdings subsidiary StreetSine Singapore.
Ingrid Kamphuis has been promoted to Senior Director with Savills Residence in Shanghai over three years after joining the division of the London-based property consultancy’s team. Kamphuis, who joined Savills as a director in 2015, is responsible for operations and business development of Savills’ serviced apartment business in mainland China, and also has previous experience with Onyx Hospitality Group and CBRE.
Matt Shapiro has been promoted to Associate Director for Retail Tenant Representation at Savills in Shanghai, just one year after stepping up to a Senior Manager role. The University of Hawaii graduate, who joined Savills as an Associate in 2014, specialises in assisting international retailers seeking to expand their store networks into China. Shapiro also has previous experience with the US Department of Commerce and the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai.
