Former MSREI exec Martijn van Eldik will run JLL’s fund advisory business for APAC
JLL has hired former Morgan Stanley Real Estate Investing executive Martijn van Eldik as its Head of Funds Advisory for Asia Pacific, the global property consultancy revealed to Mingtiandi today. Van Eldik’s appointment comes as the company grows its capital raising and investment advisory capabilities globally.
Based in the company’s APAC headquarters in Singapore, van Eldik’s hire was preceded by JLL bringing on board Matilde Attolico and Zeynep Fetvaci in July as the company established its Global Funds Advisory team in its London office.
Private Equity Veteran Jumps into Advisory
In his new role, the 16-year real estate investment veteran will be reporting to JLL’s head of Asia Pacific Capital Markets, Stuart Crow, as well as to Attolico, who heads the funds advisory team globally.
“It’s a pleasure to welcome Martijn into the JLL fold,” Crow said. “He has a great track record in raising private capital. We see a tremendous opportunity to assist global capital sources access the Asia Pacific region, either in traditional fund formats, or in a range of joint venture or partnership structures.”
Already based in Asia for most of his career, van Eldik served most recently as an Executive Director with Morgan Stanley Real Estate Investing in Singapore, where he was in charge of capital raising for Asia. Before that five year stint with the US investment heavyweight, the graduate of Rotterdam’s Erasmus University has spent more than 11 years with CBRE Global Investors and its predecessor, ING Real Estate Investment Management in both the Netherlands and Hong Kong.
JLL Builds Investment Advisory Team
JLL’s Global Funds Advisory team is a new business unit which combines the company’s three existing regional funds advisory and placement teams. According to the US-based firm, the team works with fund clients across the world to provide support and strategic counsel on raising capital for real estate investment opportunities.
“We’re growing our team with talent like Martijn in order to offer clients a compelling combination of market-leading advice, expert project management and global distribution,” JLL’s Attolico said. “We believe we have something truly unique in the funds advisory space that a traditional investment bank or boutique placement agent can’t offer.”
In addition to growing its funds advisory services, JLL has been growing its bench of senior level experts in the areas of debt capital, corporate finance and M&A advisory. Former Standard Chartered and National Bank of Abu Dhabi executive Fergal Harris joined in May 2017 as head of debt capital for Asia Pacific and now leads a team of experts across the region.
