US-based real estate services team Cushman & Wakefield announced today the appointment of Sara Gougarty to the position of Director, Retail Tenant Representation, China. Sara joined the company in February, and will be based in Shanghai.
According to a statement from the company, Gougarty will be responsible for assisting major international retailers with planning China market strategies, selecting locations, and advising on how best to partner with landlords to ensure success in the country’s rapidly growing retail market.
Cushman indicated that Gougarty was selected for the role due to her strong track record in assisting clients with retail requirements in China. Before joining Cushman & Wakefield, Gougarty was part of the retail tenant representation team at Savills in Shanghai.
The selection of a new leader for its retail tenant representation team is the latest in a string of senior level hirings by Cushman & Wakefield, which is rapidly expanding its China team.
Just before the spring festival holiday, the privately held property advisory firm brought on board Laura Lu as head of Human Resources for China, and during December recruited James Shepherd as head of research for Greater China. During 2013, former Sun Hung Kai and Morgan Stanley exec Jonathan Davis took on the role of Eastern China Managing Director for the firm and Michael Stacy was lured away from competitor CBRE to become Cushman’s head of tenant representation in Shanghai.
