Katsuji Tokita takes the reins as managing director of Colliers Japan
Global real estate consultancy Colliers International is boosting its platform in Japan by launching a wholly owned, company-branded business in the country. The NASDAQ-listed property services firm’s new Tokyo-based business comes as Colliers ends its 20-year affiliate relationship with partner KK Halifax in the country.
The Canadian-based firm announced Colliers International Japan this week as a strategic move to strengthen its operations in Asia and provide a platform for future growth in the country, as Colliers targets rapid expansion across the world.
“This addition is an important step toward achieving our ambitious five-year plan to double the size of our company by 2020,” said Jay S Hennick, chairman & CEO of Colliers International in a statement.
Long-Standing Execs Take Charge of Japan Business
As part of the change, a pair of Colliers team members with a combined five decades of real estate experience have been tapped to lead the company’s business in Japan. Katsuji Tokita takes the reins as managing director of Colliers Japan this month, after serving as general manager of tenant representation at Colliers’ affiliate organisation, while senior manager of tenant representation Hazumu Iwase has been named an executive director of the new entity.

“Japan is a strong, highly advanced, and growing market that represents an attractive growth opportunity for our business,” said David Hand, CEO for Asia Pacific at Colliers in the statement. “With decades of experience, Katsuji and Hazumu will provide an unparalleled level of market knowledge to support our clients’ objectives and position Colliers for continued growth in Asia Pacific.”
Based in Tokyo, Tokita has worked with Colliers continuously since 1992, except for a two-year stint at rival agency CB Richard Ellis (now CBRE), according to his professional profile on LinkedIn. The real estate veteran has held various roles on the tenant representation team, including serving as a general manager since 2008.
“With a well-respected global platform and greater integration of our operations in Japan, we will create substantially more opportunities for our clients and our people,” Katsuji commented in the statement.
Iwase joined the Colliers organisation in 1995 and most recently served as general manager of tenant representation since 2008.
Besides tenant representation, Colliers Japan currently fields teams of professionals dedicated to corporate solutions, project management, investment services, and valuation and advisory, serving the needs of local and international clients.
