This week in Asia’s collection of real estate professionals taking on new roles, a London-based research veteran finds a new home with a Chinese sovereign wealth fund, a fund manager heads back to Germany from Singapore and a mainland developer brings on some marketing expertise as it builds a global team. Read on for all the latest in our first batch of September job updates.
Former AXA Investment Managers executive Alan Patterson has been hired by Chinese sovereign fund Gingko Tree Investment as Head of Research and Strategy, according to an update to his LinkedIn profile. Patterson, who remains based in London, had served as Global Head of Research and Strategy with AXA’s Real Assets division up until June of last year. Gingko Tree is the investment wing of China’s State Administration of Foreign Exchange and is charged with investing the country’s foreign exchange reserves.
Volker Wanka has left his role at Savills Investment Management to return to Germany with Patrizia Immobilien AG, according to an update by the real estate investment executive to his LinkedIn profile. Wanka, who moved to Singapore at the beginning of this year, has now taken on the role of Fund Manager with SDAX-listed Patrizia after joining Savills Investment Management via its buyout of Germany’s SEB in 2015.
Andy Ma has joined Lok Fu Real Estate in Shanghai as a General Manager. Ma signed up with the division of Hong Kong oyster sauce maker Lee Kum Kee Health Products Group recently after nearly five years with CBRE where he served as Managing Director of the agency’s Hangzhou office. The veteran broker also spent more than five years with Colliers in Shanghai. Lee Kum Kee has significant real estate holdings in Hong Kong, as well as having purchased Corporate Avenue Three in Shanghai from Shui On Land in 2015. In July the Hong Kong firm spent $1.7 billion to buy 20 Fenchurch Street in London, better known as the Walkie-Talkie.
CFLD International, the global arm of mainland developer China Fortune Land Development, has brought on board former City Developments Limited executive Dominic Chew to serve as its Chief Marketing Officer. Chew, who previously spent more than seven years at CDL, most recently as Vice President of Branding and Strategic Marketing, will join CFLD International’s growing team in Singapore.
Cherie Zhou has joined Shanghai Disney Resort as Operating Participants Manager with the US-based theme park operator. Zhou signed up with Mickey, Donald and Goofy after more than six years with JLL in Shanghai, where the graduate of Shanghai University and University of Technology Sydney served most recently as an Associate Director with the international property consultancy’s Retail Project Services division.
Nicholas Blyth has signed up with SIP Project Management in Shanghai as a business development officer. Blyth comes to the international project management firm after spending three years as a Sales and Marketing Manager with real estate trade show The Luxury Property Showcase China. The University of Manchester graduate also has experience with international property consultancy Savills in Beijing.
