This week’s people in the news has strong ties to CBRE with several of the firm’s former employees moving on to new gigs. CBRE Capital Advisors saw a Senior Director leave for Credit Suisse while the former CEO and Chairman of CBRE China founded a Hong Kong firm alongside Paul Husband. In addition to this, a pair of managers from regional offices in China have also taken on new challenges with one moving to JLL and another heading to Vicus Partners. Christopher Chiang has joined Credit Suisse’s real estate investment management team and will head the Swiss firm’s real estate investment efforts in Asia Pacific, reporting to Credit Suisse’s head of international real estate acquisition and sales, Daniel Tochtermann. The shift means that Chiang is leaving CBRE’s Singapore office where he had been Senior Director at CBRE Capital Advisors, amidst a broader shake up of the company’s investment advisory business in the region. The veteran investment advisor’s move comes within the same month that his now former boss, Nick Crockett stepped down from his position as Executive Director for CBRE Capital Advisors in Asia Pacific.
Former CBRE China chief Chris Brooke has turned up as a partner in a newly formed consulting firm in Hong Kong. Brooke has teamed with Paul Husband of Husband Retail Consulting to form Brooke Husband, a Hong Kong-based firm providing strategic market insight, development consulting and investment advisory services to real estate owners, developers and investors in Asia Pacific. It has been more than a year since Brooke left CBRE where he had been working as head of its consulting division for Asia after earlier stepping down as CEO and chairman of the company’s China operation.
Mini Wang has joined Greenland Hongqiao World Center Hotels in Shanghai. She will be serving as the firm’s Cluster Director Of Marketing & Communications. Wang was most recently at Pullman Sanya Yalong Bay Villas & Resort where she put in a two-year shift as the hotel’s Director of Marketing & Communications. The hospitality vet has spent ten years in the industry also working at IHG and Wyndham in China.
Warren Chen has been lured away from CBRE’s Guangzhou office joining rival JLL in the same city. He has been hired as a Manager at the agency after spending more than two years at CBRE working as an Assistant Manager. The University of St. Andrews graduate has also spent time at Shenzhen World Union Properties Consultancy where he worked as Consultant Analyst.
Karen Wu swapped Beijing for New York and is now working for Vicus Partners as the Office Leasing Tenant Representative at the firm’s China desk. She had been working with CBRE previously, spending six years at the agency’s Beijing office eventually working her way to Senior Manager. Vicus is a Manhattan-based commercial real estate firm that represents tenants in commercial transactions.
Davide Fugazza was promoted to the Director of Greater China and North Asia at Haworth. He was most recently serving as the furniture, interior architecture and technology solutions company’s Director of Business Development and General Sales Manager. The one-time Ferrari man will be based in Shanghai having first moved to the city in 2015 having also spent time working for Haworth in Sydney.
