While trades of income-earning real estate assets in Asia Pacific fell 24 percent in 2022 compared to a year earlier, investment in new data centre projects in the region climbed by more than 11 percent, according to MSCI – underscoring the appeal of the digital infrastructure sector.
During 2023, with the region’s per capita data centre capacity per capita, both operational and under-development, still at a fraction of levels in the US, some of the world’s largest investment firms are expanding their initiatives in the sector deeper into Southeast Asia, and Mingtiandi is bringing back its APAC Data Centre Forum to gather industry experts on our MTD TV platform.
Starting from 5 September, the forum, which is sponsored by Yardi, will provide exclusive interview sessions with top executives from companies including Princeton Digital Group, Warburg Pincus, Empyrion DC and Seraya Partners.
The five-session program will also feature panels on the growth of Asia’s hyperscale sector, investment Southeast Asia data centres and opportunities in Japan and Korea. If you have yet to register for the program, please follow the link above to sign up.
CapitaLand, Nuveen and ESR on the Way
The initial session in the forum on 5 September will bring together Rangu Salgame, chairman and CEO of Princeton Digital Group with Ellen Ng, co-head of Asia Real Estate for Warburg Pincus, for a discussion of how the pan-regional platform is expanding in markets from Japan to India, and explain what comes next for the company.
- Diarmid Massey, CEO, Data Centres, ESR
- Patrick Boocock, Chief Executive Officer, Private Equity Alternative Assets, Real Assets, CapitaLand Investment
- Bob Tan, Executive Director, Capital Markets, Data Centre Practice Group, JLL

The programme will continue on 7 September with a panel discussion on Asia’s hyperscale market featuring Rachit Mohan, APAC lead for data centre leasing with JLL’s capital markets team; Paul Dwyer, head of data centres for Logos; and Mandy Lan, special counsel with Baker McKenzie.
Then on 12 September, the discussion turns to Southeast Asia, for an exploration of the region’s fastest-growing data centre market.
On 14 September the focus shifts to Japan and Korea with a panel featuring Diarmid Massey, CEO for data centres with ESR; Bob Tan, executive director for capital markets with the data centre practice group with JLL; Patrick Boocock, chief executive for private equity alternative assets with the real assets division of CapitaLand Investment; and Jing Zhou, senior director for alternatives and strategic transactions with Nuveen.
In its final week, the forum will bring together Mark Fong, chief executive of sustainable data centre specialist Empyrion DC with James Chern, managing partner and chief investment officer with Seraya Partners for an interview on how the companies are working together to expand the startup’s regional platform.
Office Forum and Singapore on Track in Q4
Back for its fourth year, in 2022 Mingtiandi’s data centre forum attracted a total of 4,500 views from industry executives globally, with more than 60 percent of attendees having been of director-level or above.
Following the data centre forum, Mingtiandi will hold its third annual office strategies series in October on MTD TV, before returning on-location to Singapore in November for a second straight year of discussions of real estate investment in Southeast Asia and beyond.
