Asia’s property investment leaders will be gathering in Shanghai this coming week as the Asia Pacific Real Estate Association holds its largest event of the year in China’s commercial capital.
The APREA Asia Pacific Property Leaders Summit will take place from 3-5 September with top executives from global and regional property firms tracking the biggest market trends and exploring smart cities, discussing developments in property technology, and sharing predictions about what’s to come in 2020.
The annual event organised by the property industry non-profit led by ARA Asset Management’s John Lim combines three days of presentations, group discussions, masterclasses and social events to bring together the executives making some of Asia Pacific’s largest real estate deals.
Bringing Together Blackstone and Brookfield with CK Asset, ARA and Link REIT
For 2019 the APREA Asia Pacific Property Leaders Summit brings together top executives from across the region, including representatives of leading developers, fund managers and brokerages.
Among the representatives of major US fund managers speaking at the event will be KKR Managing Director for Real Estate Bryan Southergill as well as Blackstone Senior Managing Director and Head of Real Estate for Asia Alan Miyasaki.
From the northern part of North America, Brookfield Asset Management’s Head of China and Head of Real Estate for Asia Stuart Mercier, and CPPIB’s Head of Real Estate Investments for Asia Jimmy Phua will also be taking the stage.
From mainland China, the Wang Linlin, a general manager with China Overseas Land & Investment is taking part, while KaiLong Group chairman Cheng Heiming and Chongbang Group Managing Director for Investment and Development Chris Wu will also help to lead the discussions.
From Hong Kong, Justin Chiu, an executive director with Li Ka-shing’s CK Asset Holdings, and George Hongchoy, Chief Executive Officer and an Executive Director with Link Asset Management, the manager of Asia’s largest real estate investment trust Link REIT will be speaking at the event.
ARA Asset Management founder and APREA chairman John Lim will be providing a keynote address, with Frank Khoo, Frank Khoo, Group Chief Investment Officer with City Developments Ltd also making the trip from Singapore to present.
Also helping to lead the discussions will be representatives of Japan’s Tokyu Land, India’s Tata Realty and Infrastructure and Embassy Office Parks, India’s first REIT.
Three Day Thought Leadership Event
The three day conference kicks off on 3 September with an early morning charity run followed by an 8:00 am tee time for the Asia Pacific Property Leaders Golf Championship. Concurrently, APREA will lead a site visit to the 132-storey Shanghai Tower.
In the afternoon of the first day, separate small group sessions will bring together leaders in investment and research, with a separate session for the future leaders committee, followed by an evening cocktail hour and a welcome dinner and reception at 7:00 pm
Wednesday, 4 September is the conference’s pillar day, with an opening panel on global megatrends, followed by a keynote speech on the future of real estate investment in the Asia Pacific region.
As the closing session of the conference’s pillar day, Mingtiandi’s Michael Cole will host a discussion titled “How to Find Yield in Asia Real Estate in 2020.”
In the in-depth on-stage interview with Brookfield’s Stuart Mercier and CPPIB’s Jimmy Phua, two of the most active investment managers in the region will share their ideas on what market segments are likely to offer the best opportunities for investment return in the coming year.
The third day of the event, on 5 September, includes a pair of masterclasses on real estate investment.
