As someone who builds online real estate applications for a living I was amazed to see the latest addition to Baidu’s online resources today when the company announced that it was adding floor plans of building interiors to its Baidu maps.
In today’s update of its blog Baidu Beat the company showed how the interiors of buildings such as shopping malls can now be explored online through Baidu maps.
This innovation is something has potentially powerful applications for those of us trying to figure out who is buying, selling and leasing what space for how much money in China. With this kind of information publicly available, real estate people with a significant database of transctions can more easily compare commercial real estate transactions and see what space is really being traded.
As far as I know Google has yet to offer anything as comprehensive as this, and this is an encouraging sign of Chinese Internet companies doing significant innovation.
Now I am off to try out the service — I will update this space later with my review of the system.
