I have been publishing this blog for nearly four years now, and with daily updates in the last few months, it gets to be a challenge to organise all of the information that I’ve posted here. The two solutions that WordPress provides us with (like most CMS) is organising our content with categories and tags, but Mingtiandi now has content organised into 29 categories and 614 tags. Not easy to keep track of is it?
To help make sense of all of this content, along with the tagging that gets put onto it, I decided to to implement an automatic tagging system based on Reuters Open Calais. This system scans every new post and page that I create on Mingtiandi for keywords and phrases, and then suggests tags based on this.
By using this system, I hope to become more consistent in my tagging (614 tags may be a few too many), achieve better SEO results, and save time while publishing new posts.
I’m implementing the Calais system through WordPress’ Tagaroo plugin, and if this system works well, then I expect to implement a similar system on RightSite through the Open Calais module that is available on RightSite’s Drupal CMS.
(By the way, I frequently use Mingtiandi as a kind of sandbox for trying out new web development, user interface and online marketing concepts, before implementing them on RightSite, and this has been a great way to innovate. Every CEO and CMO should be trying out their ideas on WordPress before moving them onto more robust platforms).
If any of you have ideas or questions regarding Open Calais, or would like to understand more about what the *&^%$#@! I’m talking about, then just leave a comment on this post or get in touch.
