Veteran Advisors

Sakai has over 20 years of experience as a certified tax accountant, specialising in advising on Japanese real estate investment structures. The executive primarily serves various real estate funds and their offshore/onshore investors, and has significant experience with implementing Japanese real estate securitisation structures covering the entire life cycle from deal formation to exit.

In addition to advising on structuring matters, Sakai also provides tax compliance services for investment vehicles used in typical real estate holding structures such as special purpose companies, REITs, and asset management companies.

Inoue advises on internal audit co-sourcing and compliance surveillance, specialising in financial investment management contractors. From April 2019 to March 2021, he was seconded to the Securities and Exchange Surveillance Commission (SESC), where he served as a special financial inspector conducting on-site inspections of asset management companies.

Prior to joining Deloitte in July 2010, Inoue worked in real estate appraisal for securitised properties and had investment management experience with the asset management unit of a Tokyo-listed REIT.

Sakamoto advises on financial transactions including loans, issuance of securities including J-REIT units, and securitisation. The executive also has expertise in financial regulations including Japan’s banking law and the financial instruments and exchange law, as well as with listing rules concerning reorganisation of listed companies. His expertise covers real estate transactions including real estate investment via the GK-TK scheme and outbound real estate investment via foreign limited partnerships.

Prior to joining DT Legal Japan in 2018, Sakamoto worked as an executive director at EY Law Co, a unit of Ernst & Young in Japan. Before that, Sakamoto worked in the policy and legal division of the planning and coordination bureau of Japan’s Financial Services Agency, as well as major domestic law firm Nagashima Ohno & Tsunematsu.

The Deloitte executives are part of a roster of more than 35 industry leaders who will speak at Mingtiandi’s Japan Forum, including executives from AXA Investment Management, KKR, Warburg Pincus, Ares Management, UBS, Lendlease, ESR and GLP Capital Partners.
