Jim Yip Joins JLL as Head of Capital Markets for China

Jim Yip is now JLL’s head of capital markets for China

JLL today announced that it has brought on board Jim Yip as the property consultancy’s new head of capital markets for China, with the former Cushman & Wakefield executive scheduled to take on his duties with the firm as of 2 January 2019.

“Jim brings to JLL his strong, extensive leadership experience and knowledge. He will empower the team with great energy and focus as we deliver real value to our clients,” KK Fung, JLL’s chief executive officer for Greater China, said in a statement. “We are delighted to have Jim onboard and look forward to leveraging his remarkable expertise and experience in leading our China capital markets business forward.”

In his new role as Head of capital markets for China, Yip will continue to be based in Shanghai, and will also serve as head of capital markets for eastern China. The appointment marks the first time in three years that JLL has had a country head for its investment team in China, with the company going to a regionally directed structure at the time of former China capital markets chief Alan Li’s departure in December 2015.

Homecoming for JLL Graduate

Yip takes on his new duties at JLL after having served with what is now Cushman & Wakefield since 2004, when he joined the former DTZ and relocated to Shanghai shortly thereafter. Most recently, Yip had served as co-head of capital markets for China at Cushman & Wakefield, until his departure was announced last week.

In his new role at JLL, Yip will lead the company’s nearly 100 person capital markets team in China, while working closely with the department’s regional leadership including Kelvin Lu in South China, Michael Wang in North China and Eric Xu in West China.

Yip’s new role at the US-based property consulting firm brings him back to his early corporate home, with the graduate of Oxford Brookes University having started out his property career at JLL’s predecessor, Jones Lang Wooton, in Hong Kong in 1989.

In addition to his undergraduate work in the UK, Yip obtained his MBA from The Johnson School at Cornell University, and also studied at Tsinghua University’s PBC School of Finance.
