JLL’s Oscar Chan has completed deals totalling more than $3 billion
JLL on Monday announced the promotion of Oscar Chan to head of capital markets for Hong Kong, effective this month.
The eight-year JLL veteran will focus on advising clients on real estate investment opportunities in the city, as well as targeting potential joint-venture partners for overseas funds while formulating detailed cash flow analysis, the property consultancy said in a release.
“Greater China is an area we are keen to establish as a key area for focused growth, and we are confident that Oscar’s wealth of knowledge in potential domestic vendors in Greater China and purchasers will enable JLL to identify and source more Hong Kong property investment opportunities,” said Gavin Morgan, managing director at JLL in Hong Kong. “Oscar is extremely well-known to our key investor clients based here in the city, acting as a bridge that strengthens the ties between Hong Kong and other regions.”
Mainland Track Record
Chan brings more than 15 years of experience in inbound and outbound transactions in Greater China to his new role. Prior to joining JLL, he served for two years as executive director in CBRE’s investment properties division based in Shanghai. Before that, the University of Hong Kong grad was a director at the former DTZ for seven years, before it merged with Cushman & Wakefield in 2015.
Across cities in Greater China, Chan has completed acquisition and disposition deals totalling more than $3 billion. Among the notable deals Chan has advised on are Overseas Chinese Town’s 2017 purchase of an 80 percent stake in Sino Land’s Palazzo project in Chengdu. The veteran broker was also involved in UK developer Grosvenor’s sale of the Parkside Plaza in Shanghai to mainland builder Joy City.
JLL’s previous head of capital markets in Hong Kong, Joseph Tsang, continues in his role as Hong Kong chairman and is leading another team at the company.
Tsang, who joined JLL Hong Kong in 1984, formerly served as managing director for Hong Kong for eight years. When Morgan was promoted to the MD seat in mid-2019, the long-dormant position of Hong Kong chairman was revived for Tsang.
Morgan took on the managing director duties in addition to his existing role as chief operating officer for Greater China. The Northern Ireland native has spent most of his time at JLL in Hong Kong since joining the agency as an associate director in 2001, save for a one-year stint at CBRE in London that ended in 2018.
Both Morgan and Tsang report to JLL Greater China chief executive KK Fung.
