Gavin Morgan sees his role grow at JLL

Property consultancy JLL has rejigged its senior leadership in Hong Kong, according to an announcement by the company today, as it expands Gavin Morgan’s role in the world’s most expensive real estate market.

Morgan, who has spent most of his time at JLL in Hong Kong since joining the company eighteen years ago, will be taking over as Hong Kong Managing Director for the US-based firm effective July 1. Joseph Tsang, who has been the company’s Hong Kong MD for the past eight years, was named chairman for the city in the same statement.

A native of Northern Ireland, Morgan will take on the MD role in addition to his existing responsibilities as Chief Operating Officer for Greater China.

Welcoming an Expanded Leadership Team

“Hong Kong continues to be one of our key markets globally. We are fortunate to have a great depth of leadership talent and we are excited to have both Joseph and Gavin drive the next generation of our growth strategy in this dynamic market,” says Anthony Couse Chief Executive Officer for JLL in Asia Pacific said in the statement.

Morgan has moved steadily up the ranks at JLL in Hong Kong since leaving Ulster to land as an Associate Director with the company’s office leasing team in the city in 2001. After a decade on the office team, Morgan was named Deputy Managing Director for Hong Kong and chair of JLL’s Global Office Leasing Group in 2011, before being bumped up to COO for Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau and Head of Leasing in early 2012.

In 2015, the graduate of Ulster University got on the plane to the US to become Vice Chairman and Head of Capital Markets with JLL’s Greater NYC office, only to leave that post for a stint as Head of Investor Leasing for Europe, the Middle East and Africa for rival CBRE, based out of London.

In April of last year Morgan rejoined JLL as Chief Operating Officer for Greater China before taking this latest step up today.

Tsang Shifts into Senior Role

In their new roles, both Morgan and Tsang will be reporting to Greater China CEO KK Fung,

“JLL has experienced great success in Hong Kong under Joseph’s leadership over the past eight years, and we would like to thank him for his unwavering focus on our clients and our people,” Fung said. “Gavin with Joseph will continue to build our presence and talent pool and today we are proud to be a leading real estate player that has earned the trust of many local Hong Kong and multinational clients.”

The chairman role has been revived for the occasion with the position having been vacant since Peter Lee left the slot more than 15 years ago.

Tsang who has worked across the industrial, residential, development and capital markets sectors since joining JLL Hong Kong in 1984 will continue leading the Capital Markets team in Hong Kong where he can leverage three decades of client relationships in facilitating investment deals and fostering other transactions.
