Developers and designers from Greater China scored big at the grand final of this year’s PropertyGuru Asia Property Awards with companies from the region taking home top prizes for overall development, retail development, residential and other major categories at a ceremony on 13 December.
After clinching the best developer (Mainland China) award at the PropertyGuru Asia Property Awards (Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau) earlier that same day, Guangdong-based Zhuhai Huafa Properties Co, Ltd took home the golden statuette for best Developer (Asia) at the pan-regional event that evening, with other players from the mainland, Macau and Hong Kong, also winning recognition.
“Congratulations to all the winners in Mainland China for once again setting benchmarks in property development and design,” said Ken Ip, chairman of Asia MarTech Society who chaired the awards. “The remarkable properties they have created—ranging from ultra-luxury residences to high-end developments, new constructions to revitalised assets, and mixed-use projects to sales galleries—reflect a truly world-class environment. These achievements highlight how far China has progressed, with structures that match the scale and ambition of its economy.”
Zhuhai Huafa, which won recognition for its Shenzhen Huafa Snow World and Xi’an Huafa Lijun ‧Center Glorious at the Mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau event earlier in the day, bested entries from Australia, Sri Lanka, Hong Kong, the Philippines, India, Indonesia and Singapore to take home the top developer prize region-wide.
Excellence Recognised
The grand finals of the 19th annual PropertyGuru Asia Property Awards recognised projects which had already come out winners at country-level competitions in Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, Australia, Malaysia, Singapore and Vietnam as well as mainland China, Macau and Hong Kong.
Recognising excellence across categories, including green and sustainable development, the PropertyGuru Asia Property Awards Grand Final on Friday was held at the Athenee Hotel in Bangkok as part of PropertyGuru Week, and immediately followed the PropertyGuru Asia Real Estate Summit.
Award winners were selected by an independent jury composed of head judges from participating markets with the process supervised by representatives of advisory and accounting firm HLB and its affiliates.
“This year’s winners across Asia Pacific have impressed the judges with their sustainable, functional masterplans and designs, spanning everything from expansive townships to livable homes and dynamic commercial spaces,” said Thien Duong, chairperson of the Grand Final. “Excellence in property development is incessantly redefined across the region, and we’re happy to contribute to this ongoing evolution.”
Developments Recognised
Joining Zhuhai Huafa among the five wins representing mainland China were design firm Lead8, which was recognised for its MixC Changchun and K11 Shanghai, Huaihai Middle Road projects. Also among the mainland awardees were design practices Jiang & Associates Creative Design, which won for Alibaba Beijing Chaoyang Science and Technology Park and Sybarite, which won for SKP Chengdu.
Hong Kong and Macau projects also won accolades at the Grand Final including China Resources Land (Overseas) Limited and Poly Property (Hong Kong) Co, Limited taking home the Best Luxury Waterfront Condo Development (Asia) prize for their Pano Harbour project in Hong Kong.
“Hong Kong and Macau continue to be hubs for impressively built projects, as demonstrated by the outstanding quality of this year’s award winners,” Paul Tse, president of the Macao Association of Building Contractors and Developers and one of the contest judges said. “We are particularly proud to have presented an accolade for excellence in ESG and heritage development, in line with the international community’s continuing focus towards sustainable and socially responsible practices.”
Hong Kong’s Lofter Group Limited claimed the prize for Best Connectivity Condo Development (Asia) for its 1 Ki Lung Street project after having been named Best Boutique Developer at the Hong Kong and Macau awards.
Southeast Asia Makes Its Mark
With 130 top prizes awarded across Asia at the grand finals, the finalists from the Philippines took home the highest total with 12 awards ‘Best of Asia’ awards.
Among the Filipino winners was Federal Land, Inc which clinched the statuette for Best Luxury Developer (Asia) while its Federal Land NRE Global, Inc affiliate claimed the Best Breakthrough Developer (Asia) title. Having won recognition for its LIMA Estate project in Batangas, near Manila, Aboitiz InfraCapital Economic Estates of the Philippines was honoured as Best Industrial Developer (Asia).
Other Southeast Asian countries winning multiple awards included Malaysia, which took home 11 top awards; Indonesia, which achieved eight wins; and Singapore which garnered eight pinnacle-level prices. Thailand and Vietnam each won four top prizes, while Cambodia made the list with a solo win.
“The 2024 PropertyGuru Asia Property Awards series included many first-time accolades,” said Jules Kay, general manager of PropertyGuru Asia Property Awards and Events. “We celebrated the strengths of emerging and established property markets, expanding to new regions and revisiting the region’s leading real estate destinations.”
