He also leads the firm’s practice in advising Asia-based outbound cross-border investors in structuring, implementing, and managing equity and debt investments into the United States, Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East.
With more than twenty-five years’ experience living and working in Asia, Joel has structured, documented, and implemented a number landmark transactions and investment programs in the region, including the first rating agency rated commercial mortgaged-backed securities transaction in Japan, the first non-performing loan securitization transactions completed in Japan and in South Korea, the first comingled USD/RMB real estate fund sponsored by a Chinese financial institution and the first international style non-recourse real estate loans by financial institutions in both Japan and China.
Greenberg Traurig (www.gtlaw.com) is one of the world’s largest law firms. Originally established in the United States in 1967, the firm has grown to include over 2,400 lawyers in 44 offices across the globe including North America, Latin America, Europe, the Middle East and Asia. Today we conduct a global law practice through an international network linking the world’s leading financial and commercial centers.
Real estate is a core specialty of the firm worldwide. Globally, our real estate team comprises over 700 lawyers who focus exclusively on the real estate and construction industry. This ranks amongst the largest number of real estate attorneys at any global law firm.
Real estate is a key component of our Asia offering. Our multilingual and multi-jurisdictional real estate team includes attorneys across all our Asia offices who advise international private equity funds, asset managers, investment banks, financial institutions, developers, and investors in structuring, developing, implementing, documenting, and closing cross-border real estate debt and equity investments and investment platforms throughout Asia. Our knowledge of international standards and practices and understanding of local laws and practices allows us to address our clients’ legal needs at virtually every level.
In addition to representing inbound investors making cross-border investments into Asia, our Asia real estate team also works closely with our global network of real estate attorneys to advise Asia-based institutions, investors, and entrepreneurs in making both direct and fund-based outbound investments from Asia to the United States, Europe, and around the globe.
