Asia Real Estate People in the News 2019-12-16

In this week’s edition of People in the News, the former head of China Resources Land has been put up for a place on the board of Sunshine City Group, just four months after joining the board of Hong Kong-based Sun Hung Kai Properties

In other people moves around the region, JLL has strengthened its Asia Pacific data centres team in Singapore with the appointment of a new director, and Hong Kong’s Campfire Collaborative Spaces, which closed down its Quarry Bay location recently, has seen its group business development director up stakes and take a role in Australia. There were also new hires and promotions at Tianrun Asset Management, The Great Room and Pamfleet.

Wu xiangdong CFLDWu Xiangdong has been nominated to sit on the board of Shenzhen-listed developer Sunshine City Group as an independent director, according to a stock exchange announcement. Currently serving as co-chairman, president and CEO of state-owned developer China Fortune Land Development, Wu’s nomination is subject to the approval of the developer’s shareholders. The nomination comes four months after he was appointed to the board of Hong Kong-based Sun Hung Kai Properties as an independent non-executive director. The former head of state-owned China Resources Group’s property business, China Resources Land, is the first mainlander to have served on Sun Hung Kai’s board.

Phillipa Weber has been appointed as a director in JLL’s Asia Pacific data centre team in Singapore, after three years as a senior manager for the property consultancy in Melbourne. Prior to that, the University of Sydney graduate had served as a senior manager for Colliers International in Shanghai for six months in 2015 in the data centre business services team, and as a portfolio analyst for Digital Realty between 2013 and 2014, following four and a half years as a commercial analyst with Global Switch.

Jacob Feenstra has been hired by workspace solutions firm The Instant Group as a director in Melbourne after parting ways with Campfire Collaborative Spaces. Feenstra had served as the group director of business development for the Hong Kong-based co-working company for two years. Prior to that, Feenstra had served as a general manager for Cliftons in Hong Kong from 2015 to 2017 and as a managing consultant for Drake International between 2013 and 2015.

Andrew Xiao has stepped up to vice general manager at Tianrun Asset Management after eight months as an assistant general manager for the Beijing-based asset management firm. In his new role, Xiao is responsible for the asset management of the investment firm’s grade A office buildings Beijing IFC, TFC and EIC. Prior to his time at Tianrun, the Southwest Jiaotong University graduate had served as a senior negotiator for CBRE in Beijing from 2014 to 2016, following ten months as a structural engineer for China Railway Construction.

Eva Zhang has been hired by The Great Room as a general manager in Hong Kong, after parting ways with The Executive Centre. Zhang had served as an associate director in business development for the flexible office operator for three years, following a year and a half with Regus from 2015 to 2016. The Nanchang Institute of Aeronautical Technology graduate had served as a regional conference sales director for The Executive Centre from 2013 to 2015, and had also done a previous two-year stint with Regus as a general manager in Shanghai between 2011 and 2013.

Ella Hu has joined Allianz Real Estate in Singapore as a senior associate after parting ways with CapitaLand. Hu had served as an senior associate with the investment team for the property developer’s real estate debt opportunities fund from 2018 to 2019, following two years as a manager on the developer’s Raffles City China Funds. Prior to that, the University of Technology Sydney graduate had served as an associate in GLP’s fund management team in Shanghai from 2015 to 2016, and as a senior equity analyst at Ashland Partners from 2008 to 2015.

Jon Cho has been appointed by Pamfleet as a management trainee in Shanghai following the completion of an off-cycle internship in the capital markets team at JLL. The Claremont McKenna College graduate fulfilled a placement as a summer analyst at Three Stones Capital in Hong Kong last year as well as a six-month internship at Kotra in Shenzhen in 2016. Cho completed a bachelor of science in business administration and management at Shanghai Jiao Tong University this year.
