In this week’s edition of People in the News, an SC Capital Partners executive director in Shanghai has stepped up to managing director, while a WeWork senior director of real estate has defected to JLL to head the China desk in Hong Kong.
In other moves around the region, Chelsfield has brought on board a project director from Taubman Asia, while there were also fresh hires, appointments and promotions at Hilton, PropertyGuru and The Instant Group.
Michael Lane has been promoted to managing director with SC Capital Partners in Shanghai after ten years as an executive director for the Singapore-based private equity firm. Prior to joining SC Capital, Lane had served as a senior associate with Morgan Stanley’s real estate asset management business from 2006 to 2009. The graduate of California’s Pomona College had served as a research analyst for Cushman & Wakefield from 2003 to 2004 and as an associate financial advisor for Merrill Lynch from 2001 to 2003.
Cherry Lee has been appointed as head of JLL’s China desk in Hong Kong, returning to the property services firm after parting ways with WeWork. Lee had served as a senior director in the troubled co-working provider’s real estate team in Guangzhou from 2018 to 2020. Prior to joining WeWork, the graduate of the University of Sydney had served as a local director for JLL in China for 14 years.
Dor Win Tan has been hired as director of projects for Chelsfield Asia in Hong Kong after parting ways with Taubman Asia. Tan had served as a corporate director in the retail group’s design and construction team in Hong Kong for almost three years. Prior to that, the University of Melbourne graduate had served as a director of design and development in Shenzhen for NYSE-listed warehouse club Sam’s Club from 2015 to 2017, following seven years as a design manager for CapitaLand.
Eric Koo has been hired by Hilton Worldwide as a senior director in the company’s development team in Hong Kong after parting ways with InterContinental Hotels Group in Shanghai after nine years. Koo had served from 2016 until recently as IHG’s director of development for Greater China. Prior to joining the parent firm of the Holiday Inn and Crown Plaza chains, the graduate of Hong Kong Baptist University had served as a business development manager for Hong Kong-based Pacific Coffee Company’s international franchise development team.
Simon Marion has been appointed by flexible workspace specialist The Instant Group as a regional director, based in Singapore. Marion joins Instant from Brookfield Global Integrated Solutions where he served as a director in the company’s Southeast Asia division for three and a half years. Prior to this, the graduate of Pierre Mendès-France University had served as an associate director and account manager in Cushman & Walkefield’s Asia Pacific project management team from 2014 to 2016. Between 2010 and 2014, Marion had served as business development manager in Shanghai for SIP Project Management, which is now part of Colliers International.
Genevieve Godwin has been promoted to chief human resources officer at PropertyGuru after two years as the online property listings company’s human resources director. Prior to joining PropertyGuru, Godwin had served as Telenor’s head of human resources in the digital business division from 2016 to 2018, following a year as regional HR director in Asia Pacific for communications agency J Walter Thompson Worldwide. The graduate of Charles Sturt University in New South Wales had served as regional human resources leader in Asia Pacific from 2012 to 2015 for Harris CapRock Communications (now SpeedCast).
Irene Sy has stepped up to regional facilities manager for JLL in Singapore after 11 and a half years with the property consultancy’s facilities management division. During more than a decade at the company the graduate of Manila’s De La Salle University has worked her way up from facility coordinator to deputy site manager and later facilities account manager, before stepping into her current role. Sy also has previous experience as an office manager at telecommunications equipment company Avaya.
