The region’s real estate community is entering the second quarter of 2021 with fresh hopes for a recovery from the coronavirus pandemic and a flurry of new roles for professionals in Beijing, Singapore and other points around Asia. This week includes a new chief executive at one of China’s largest commercial developers, a veteran office broker taking a step up in Hong Kong and more signs of life in the hotel advisory world.
Mainland commercial developer Joy City Property Ltd officially welcomed a new chairman on Friday with You Wei taking over the top spot at the division of China’s COFCO Corporation, according to an announcement on the company website. Now 51, before taking the helm at China’s tenth largest commercial developer, You had served as deputy division director in the director general office of China’s National Food and Reserves Administration. Zhou Zheng, who had formerly served as chairman of the Beijing-based firm left his position last month to take on an unspecified role with COFCO, the state-run food processing conglomerate which controls Joy City.
Chia Nam Toon has stepped down from his role as a non-executive director with ARA LOGOS Logistics Trust Management Limited, according to an announcement by the Singapore-listed REIT. Once the chief executive of Ascendas REIT, Chia had joined ARA Asset Management in January 2018 as an assistant CEO, where he was responsible for overseeing the operation of the fund manager’s REITs division, before Chong Kee Hiong took over that role.
Robert Johnston has been promoted to senior director with the office services team at CBRE in Hong Kong, according to his LinkedIn page. The tenant representation veteran takes his latest step up after more than five years with CBRE in the city, including spending more than three years as a director. The graduate of Manchester Metropolitan University also has experience with Cushman & Wakefield in Vietnam and Hong Kong.
Jennie Cho has joined the investment and asset management team at ST Telemedia Global Data Centres in Singapore. The trained analyst joins the division of Singapore Telecom after spending more than three years with shared office firm WeWork, where she had served most recently as director of real estate underwriting and analytics.. The Cornell University graduate also has previous experience at M&G Real Estate in Singapore.
Alan Ling has joined sharing economy real estate startup Space Next Door as chief operating officer, according to an update to his LinkedIn profile. Formerly a director of fund and portfolio management with the Sunwood Group of companies, Ling joined the Singapore proptech firm this month. The trained accountant also has experience with Prologis, JTC and Digital Realty in Singapore.
Junya Wei has rejoined JLL’s Hotels and Hospitality Group as vice president for Greater China, according to an announcement by the division of the global property consulting firm. Wei started in his new Shanghai-based role just last month after more than two years at Marriott International in Singapore. Prior to joining Marriott in 2019, Wei had spent more than four years with JLL’s Hotels and Hospitality Group in the southeast Asian city-state.
