Asia Real Estate People in the News 2026-02-23

With much of the region celebrating the lunar new year this past week updates from Down Under dominate Mingtiandi’s review of personnel moves from around Asia Pacific, including a senior departure from Melbourne’s Gurner Group, senior hire at Australian Retirement Trust and a new CEO at Centennial.   

Peter Crinis GurnerPeter Crinis, group chief executive officer for wellness, hotels and hospitality at Australia’s Gurner Group, is leaving the company after just over a year on the job, according to a report in Melbourne’s Herald Sun. Crinis’ reported departure comes as Melbourne-based Gurner is expanding its Saint Haven line of wellness clubs in Melbourne and developing its Elysium Fields wellness precinct in Melbourne’s Docklands. 

Michael Sommers ART3Australian Retirement Trust has hired Michael Sommers as senior portfolio manager for opportunistic strategies, according to a LinkedIn update. Sommers joins the Brisbane-based superannuation fund after having served as general manager for portfolio construction and risk at competing super fund HESTA. Before spending nearly four years at HESTA, Sommers served nearly eight years at Melbourne-based intelligence provider Frontier Advisors and also has previous experience at CIBC World Markets, Lloyds Banking Group and the Bank of Scotland.

Paul Ford - CentennialCentennial Property Group announced earlier this month that it has promoted Paul Ford to chief executive. Ford takes his step up at the Brisbane-based fund manager after having been promoted to joint managing director in April of last year after previously leading the company’s industrial and logistics division. Ford took charge at Centennial as Adrian Taylor stepped down as managing director and group CEO.   

Peter Chapman - GurnerPeter Chapman has joined Gurner Group as head of capital raising for the Melbourne-based developer, according to a LinkedIn update. Chapman joins Gurner after five years as a partner at investment manager TTB Partners in Hong Kong. The graduate of RMIT University and the University of Hong Kong also has previous experience with Jamieson Capital, AltX Financial Group and Sydney-based Internet startup Boodl.

Chua Soon Ghee - Keppel DC REITKeppel DC REIT announced to the Singapore stock exchange on 16 February that Chua Soon Ghee has resigned from his role as an independent, non-executive on its board, with effect from 16 March. Now 54, Chua is said to be resigning due to competing commitments after joining the board in September of 2023. Currently a senior partner at consulting firm AT Kearney and a member of the board of directors at Singapore’s Infocomm Media Development Authority.

Helen Amos HSBCHelen Amos has joined HSBC in Hong Kong as global head of real estate ESG and sustainability, according to a LinkedIn update. Amos took on her new role recently after more than five years with JLL Greater China, based in Hong Kong. Amos served most recently at JLL as sustainability consulting lead for Asia Pacific and head of sustainability for Hong Kong and also has previous experience with consulting firm Cundall. 

Jonathan Stagg Zenith Firefly Upscaler 4x scaleJonathan Stagg has joined Vision Super in Melbourne as head of unlisted assets, according to an update from the Australian superannuation fund. Stagg joins Vision Super after previously serving as a senior investment analyst at Zenith Investment Partners where he led the company’s coverage of real assets, listed property and listed infrastructure. Stagg also has previous experience with JLL and fund manager ISPT.

Rahul GognaCushman & Wakefield announced this past week that it has hired Rahul Gogna as an executive director with its capital markets team in Bengaluru. Gogna joins the property consultancy from competitor JLL India, where he had served for more than three years as a senior director and head of capital markets with the company’s Bengaluru office. Gogna also has previous experience with advisory firm Keystone Principal Associates.
