Asia Real Estate People in the News 2021-06-14

A Malaysian property conglomerate’s new chief executive leads the way as Mingtiandi rounds up our set of personnel moves from around Asia this week. Kuala Lumpur-based Mahsing has chosen former Shanghai resident Benjamin Ong as its new boss, and we also have news of promotions at CPPIB and JLL, as well as new appointments at Nike, GLP and Philips.

benjamin ong MahsingBenjamin Ong has taken the top position with Malaysian real estate conglomerate Mah Sing Group, where he recently received the title of chief executive after more than four years as chief operating officer with the KL-listed group. A graduate of the UK’s University of Reading, Ong also has previous experience with HKR International and Reliance Commercial Land in Shanghai, and with Eastern & Oriental Berhad in Malaysia.

michael tanujayaMichael Tanujaya has been promoted to director at the Canadian Public Pension Investment Board (CPP Investments) in Hong Kong, where he is responsible for private real estate investments in Southeast Asia. Tanujaya took on his new role with the pension fund manager this month after more than five years as a portfolio manager. The University of Melbourne graduate also has previous experience with developer Lendlease in Australia, Japan and Singapore.

Prince PhillipsPrince Phillips has joined Nike in Tokyo as a director of real estate and construction for Japan with the apparel maker. Phillips started wearing the swoosh this month after more than two and a half years at WeWork, where he served as director of enterprise business development for Japan. The University of Central Florida graduate also has previous experience with CBRE and Cushman & Wakefield in Japan.

ryan letian zhangRyan Letian Zhang has joined GLP in Shanghai as head of strategy for the fund manager’s asset service platform. Zhang started work with the industrial real estate specialist recently after spending more than two years as a consultant with Boston Consulting Group in Shanghai. The graduate of Northwestern’s Kellogg School also previously spent time with the advisory and transaction department at CBRE, as well as with the industrial department at JLL in Shanghai.

jinjie xuJinjie Xu has joined hotel management giant Accor in Shanghai, where she now serves as senior director of development for luxury and lifestyle brands. Xu checked into her new position recently after more than 13 years with Hilton Group, including serving as director of development with the US hotel firm for more than eight years. Xu had first joined Hilton in 2008, soon after completing her MBA at ESSEC Business School in France.

daniel billigDaniel Billig has been promoted to director with the capital markets team at JLL in Hong Kong, where he leads the company’s services to Hong Kong investors seeking opportunities globally. Billig was able to update his email signature this month after first joining JLL in 2016 and working his way up from negotiator. The University of Leeds graduate also has previous experience with Colliers International in Hong Kong.

jelena milicJelena Milic has joined the team at Philips in Shanghai as senior manager for real estate strategy, M&A and innovation for Asia Pacific. In her new role Milic is expected to drive Philips’ real estate projects in Asia Pacific to help the electronics conglomerate optimise its built environment in the region. Like Prince Phillips, Milic is a recent WeWork graduate, having spent the last two years as a commercial real estate consultant with the shared office provider.
