Asia Real Estate People in the News 2021-01-04

2021/01/04 by Michael Cole Leave a Comment

Asia’s community of real estate professionals is starting off the new year with a set of top-level moves, as listed organisations in Shanghai and Singapore appoint new leaders. We also have all the details on new roles for leasing veterans in Shanghai and Beijing.

The manager of Singapore-listed Keppel REIT has promoted Shirley Ng to deputy chief executive officer, according to a recent announcement by Keppel REIT Management. The veteran Keppel Group executive officially took her step up on 1 January, some two years after joining the trust manager, where she currently serves as head of investments. Before joining Keppel REIT, Ng had spent more than ten years at Alpha Investment Partners, Keppel’s private fund management division.

Chaly Mah Chee Kheong has been selected as the new chairman of Singapore urban planning and development consultancy Surbana Jurong, according to an announcement last week by the company. Formerly chief executive for Deloitte in Southeast Asia, Mah takes the top role at Surbana Jurong just over three months after former chairman Liew Mun Leong stepped down amid a scandal involving abuse of his family’s maid.

Shanghai-listed Yuyuan Tourist Mart announced on 28 December that its executive president, Huang Zhen, has been promoted to co-chairman of the retail subsidiary of China’s Fosun Group, replacing Xu Xiaoliang, who is stepping down from the chairman role but will continue to act as a director of the company. In the same announcement, the company said that Tang Jining will replace Huang as executive president. The change in roles took effect from 25 December.

The manager of CDL Hospitality Trust announced last week that Eric Chan Soon Hee has been re-designated from non-independent and non-executive chairman to independent non-executive chairman of the manager of the Singapore-listed hotel REIT. Chan, who also joins the nominating and remuneration committees of the trust manager, saw his role officially shift from 1 January of this year.

Davy Xu Peng has joined Colliers International in Beijing as a senior director with the office leasing team, according to an update to his LinkedIn profile. Xu joins Colliers after more than six years with rival Cushman & Wakefield in China’s capital, where he served as a director with the Occupier Services division of the office leasing department. The graduate of the UK’s Sheffield Hallam University also has previous experience with CBRE.

Chris Deng has been promoted to leasing and operations manager with L’Avenue in Shanghai, just over one half year after joining the Changning district commercial project as assistant leasing and operations manager, according to an update to his LinkedIn profile. Deng also has two years’ experience with China Resources Land in Shanghai, where he was involved in the state-owned developer’s MixC commercial projects.
