In this week’s edition of People in the News, a GIC veteran leaves the sovereign wealth fund for a private equity role, while the investment wing of the UK’s biggest property agency adds some talent in Singapore and Dalian Wanda’s yacht building unit gets a new chief executive officer to keep it on course toward its first superyacht.
Elsewhere, there are new departures and arrivals across the region in research and capital markets.
Felix Chan has been hired by SC Capital Partners as a managing director of its RECAP fund series. Based in Singapore, Chan will focus on opportunistic acquisitions across Asia Pacific. He parts ways with GIC after over 16 years, most recently as senior vice president and deputy head of Japan in Tokyo, a position he had held since January 2014. Prior to this, the Tokyo Institute of Technology graduate worked in GIC’s Shanghai office for three years, where he had responsibility for the sovereign wealth fund’s commercial real estate portfolio in China.
Andrea Frabetti has been appointed as chief executive officer of Wanda Group-owned yacht builder Sunseeker Yachts as the company develops its first 161-foot superyacht in the Netherlands. Frabetti joined the UK-based luxury yacht manufacturer in January as chief technical officer following almost four years as chief executive officer of Diesel Center SPA. Prior to this, the marine and mechanical engineer served as a research and development director for shipbuilder Ferretti Group for close to 25 years. He replaces Christian Marti, who resigned after less than a year as chief executive officer.
Charles Griffith has joined Savills Investment Management in Singapore as director of business development, where he will focus on capital raising and new product development for the investment manager’s private equity real estate funds and mandates in Asia Pacific. Griffith joins Savills IM after three years as a vice president at New York-based Aetos Capital Real Estate. The graduate of Columbia Business School has also spent time working in Beijing and Hong Kong for JLL and Cushman & Wakefield.
Milan Khatri has been hired by Phoenix Property Investors in Singapore as head of research in Singapore for the real estate investment manager. Khatri takes on his new role after serving as head of property research for Asia Pacific with Aberdeen Standard since 2013. The graduate of the London School of Economics and the School of Oriental and African studies also previous was global property strategist for Aberdeen in London and served as chief economist for the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors from 1997 to 2007.
Dominic Brown has named head of insight and analysis for Asia Pacific at Cushman and Wakefield after almost a year as Asia Pacific head of research, based in Brisbane. Prior to this, Brown was the property agency’s head of Australia and New Zealand research from November 2011 until November 2018. He also served as the company’s head of Southeast Asia research from 2013 until 2016. The PhD graduate ofLeeds University was formerly an associate director at Foresight Partners in Brisbane between 2007 and 2011, and a lecturer at the University of Queensland from 2003 until 2007.
Tessa Yang has joined Burger King China as a leadership development programme trainee in Shanghai. The graduate of HEC Paris and China Europe International Business School previously worked as an assistant manager of leasing at HKRI Taikoo Hui in Shanghai. Yang also spent over six years with Hutchison Whampoa Properties Limited as a senior marketing officer for leasing in Shanghai and a leasing marketing officer in Chongqing from 2010 until 2016.
Alice Tan has been named as List Sotheby’s International Realty’s director of research and consulting for Southeast Asia, a newly created position in Singapore. Starting in her new role on 1 July, Tan will be responsible for real estate market research and consulting work within Southeast Asia. She parts ways with Knight Frank where she spent six years as a director of residential project marketing in Singapore and director and head of consultancy and research. A graduate of the National University of Singapore and the recipient of the Real Estate Developers’ Association of Singapore gold medal, she also worked as a senior manager and head of research at Rider Levett Bucknall from 2006 until 2012.
Simon Yu joins CBRE in Hong Kong as a senior manager with the capital markets team after parting ways with Colliers where he worked for a total of seven years. Yu’s move to the green team comes just months after he shifted to the capital markets department at his former employer, after being with Colliers office leasing division from 2012 through 2018. The University of Western Ontario graduate also has previous experience with JLL.
