Leading this week’s roundup of people moves from around Asia is the migration of a top level BlackRock executive. Also making the list is the Asia CEO of UK investment firm Chelsfield, who has joined the board of a Singapore hotel developer and CapitaLand has rejigged the board for its mainland China REIT.
BlackRock veteran James Mellors has returned to the UK after more than eight years in Hong Kong as he takes on a new role as global head of real estate product strategy with the asset management giant. The managing director’s responsibilities now include marketing and investor relations related to BlackRock’s real estate products, according to a LinkedIn update. Before starting his new job this month, Mellors had served since 2017 as head of BlackRock Alternatives Specialists for Asia Pacific.
Chelsfield Asia boss Nick Loup has joined the board of Singapore-listed Hotel Properties Ltd as a non-executive director, according to an announcement to the SGX. Helmed by Singapore businessman Ong Beng Seng, Hotel Properties Ltd is best known as a resort developer but recently submitted a proposal to the city-state’s Urban Redevelopment Authority to redevelop a set of commercial properties on Orchard Road. Chelsfield earlier invested in the refurbishment of what is now the Lazada One office development on Bras Basah Road.
CapitaLand China Trust said on 15 June that it has appointed Quah Ley Hoon as a non-executive, non-independent director on its board with effect from the next day. Now 46, Quah is group chief corporate officer of CapitaLand Investment Ltd and will now serve as chairman of the REIT’s executive committee, as well as joining the nominating and remuneration committee, according to the statement to the SGX. Quah replaces Andrew Geoffrey Lim, who is leaving the trust’s board on the same day.
JLL has appointed Timmy Fung as senior director for data center capital markets in Greater China, the company announced this past week. Based in Hong Kong, Fung is expected to provide strategic leadership to the property consultancy’s data centre team in the region after successfully leading more than $1 billion in data centre and other property transactions in his 20-year career. Prior to joining JLL last month, Fung served for two years as an investment director with family office Park Capital Group in Hong Kong and also has previous experience as an auditor at PwC.
Ethan Wong has been promoted to chief financial officer for the commercial property division of CSI Property Investments Ltd in Hong Kong, according to a LinkedIn update. Wong took his step up this month after just over one year as managing director for investment and asset management with the company, which he first joined in 2017. Wong also has previous experience with BEI Capital Partners and Gaw Capital.
Shanghai Zendai Property Ltd declared to the Hong Kong stock exchange on 16 June that He Haiyang has resigned from his role as an executive director on the developer’s board after three years helping to guide the company. He, who had formerly served as Zendai’s CEO, had joined the company from China Orient Asset Management and is being replaced by Long Tianyu, 38, who also serves as a director of the mainland asset manager.
Colliers said on 12 June that it has hired Ramaiy Kapoor as managing director for data centres with its India business, in a drive to capture more market share in the fast-growing sector. Kapoor joins the property consultancy after previously serving as head of investment and commercial for CapitaLand’s India data centre group. The appointment comes just one month after Colliers named Vijaya Ganesh as managing director for industrial and logistics in India.
Edison Li has joined Sam’s Club China in Shanghai as an assistant vice president with the division of US retail giant Walmart, according to a LinkedIn update. Li took on his new job this month after three years as an investment professional with ESR. The graduate of the master of science in real estate program at Columbia University also has previous experience with Mosser Capital in California.
