Asia Real Estate People in the News 2023-04-10

Southeast Asia’s largest real estate group keeps expanding its fund management business with the latest addition to the CapitaLand team leading this week’s round of people moves on Mingtiandi. Also getting mentions are new board members at developers Goodman and Great Eagle in Hong Kong, as well as the passing of a top executive at HKEX-listed Champion REIT.

Hwang Yu CapitaLandSingapore’s CapitaLand Investment continues to expand its private fund management team with Hwang Yu joining the company this month as an executive director. Hwang took on her new duties recently after more than seven years at SC Capital Partners in Singapore where she had served as an executive director and head of sustainability for the fund manager. The UCLA graduate also has previous experience at Goldman Sachs and DBS Bank.

Kitty Chung PWCAustralian industrial specialist Goodman announced this past week that Kitty Chung is joining the board of its Hong Kong logistics unit as an independent director from 1 July. Currently a partner at PriceWaterhouseCoopers in the city, Chung will be joining Goodman’s top leadership body in Hong Kong following her retirement from the accounting firm. At PWC Chung works in the firm’s Entrepreneurial Group and will be retiring with 35 years of experience in auditing and business services.

Kwong Chi Kwong Champion REITHong Kong-listed Champion REIT said on 3 April that its chief operating officer, Kwong Chi Kwong had passed away on the first day of the month at age 63. At the time of his demise Kwong had been the responsible officer of the REIT manager since it was established in 2006 and had joined the board as an executive director in October 2021. The board of the REIT manager, which is controlled by Lo Ka-Tsui’s Great Eagle Group, expressed its condolences to Kwong’s family and no cause of death was given.

Diana Cesar HSBCGreat Eagle Holdings announced on 4 April that it has appointed senior banker Diana Cesar as an independent, non-executive director on its board with effect from that day. Now 54, Cesar joins the board of the Hong Kong-listed developer in addition to her role as chief executive of Hang Seng Bank, a role which she took on in 2021 after more than 12 years at its parent firm, HSBC, where she had formerly led its Hong Kong unit.

Milan KhatriMilan Khatri has been promoted to managing director at Phoenix Property Investors in Singapore, where he continues to serve as head of research for the Hong Kong-based fund manager, according to a LinkedIn update. Khatri is taking his step up just over four years after joining Phoenix as a director, according to his LinkedIn profile. Earlier Khatri had spent more than 11 years at Aberdeen Asset Management including more than six years as head of property research for Asia Pacific.

Stephanie Yunzhi ZhangStephanie Yunzhi Yang has gotten an upgrade to executive director with the global capital markets team at CBRE in Hong Kong, according to a LinkedIn update. Yang moved up the ladder after more than four years as a senior director with CBRE’s global capital markets team in Beijing. She also has previous experience as a director with Sydney investment advisory firm Emerge Capital Partners and with industry non-profit APREA in Beijing.

Samuel ZhengIn Shanghai Samuel Zheng has also gotten bumped up to executive director with CBRE where he helps to lead the industrial and logistics services division at the property consultancy. Previously, Zheng spent more than seven years as a director with the same team, according to his LinkedIn profile, where he served clients including ESR, Yum China, Baxter, Merck and Hershey. Zheng also has experience with Cushman & Wakefield, as well as Colliers.

Wayne Hallas ColliersIn Hong Kong Wayne Hallas has moved up to an executive director role with Colliers, where he leads the property consultancy’s project management division in the city. The new title comes after Hallas spent over four years as a senior director at Colliers. The industry veteran also has previous experience at Lai Si Construction & Engineering, ProjexAsia, Structure Tone and other project management companies in Asia.
