In this week’s edition of People in the News, a Chinese-linked US real estate investment platform is losing its CEO, while an investment and asset management pro has left Shanghai to try her hand in New York’s real estate scene. Also in the news, Nike is gaining a new real estate specialist in western China while a couple of international agencies are seeing some personnel moves. Don Henry has stepped down as chief executive officer of Gemini Rosemont Realty, a US commercial real estate investment firm backed by Hong Kong’s Gemini Investments (the private equity wing of China’s Sino-Ocean Land), effective December 15. CFO Ian Brownlow will serve as interim CEO while the Santa Fe-based company searches for a permanent chief executive. Henry took the role in March of this year after serving as chief operating and investment officer at Rosemont Realty since June 2013. Formed in 2015, Gemini Rosement has about 1.2 million square metres of commercial properties across 20 states.
Helen Wei is now Real Estate Executive at Nike (Sports) China, taking the job at the sporty apparel brand in Chengdu this month after working as a network planning supervisor at Starbucks in the western Chinese city since March 2014. Wei, who graduated from Sichuan International Studies University, was previously a consultant at international brokerage Cushman & Wakefield for over three years.
Nick Huang joined Coastal Commercial Group as Head of Central Leasing based in Shenzhen last month. Huang formerly worked as Assistant Director of Portfolio Management at Swire Properties, where he was responsible for the Taikoo Li Sanlitun project in Beijing for two years. He also has over nine years of experience working in the leasing divisions of Hong Kong’s New World Group – focussing on the developer’s K11 projects – as well as Shanghai-based Shui On Land.
Shengyi (Lan) Jiang has joined Eastone Capital as Director of Business Development, based in New York City. Before taking the new job at the Long Island-headquartered real estate investment firm, Jiang worked as Managing Partner of Investment at Naze Investment Management in Shanghai, an asset management and commercial real estate investment partnership that she co-founded in 2015. The asset management expert, who received a master’s in engineering at the University of Bristol, also has experience working at E-House China, Aquaspace, and Wharf China Estates.
Lynn Lee has taken on the role of Manager, Retail Services at Cushman & Wakefield, based in Shanghai, after previously serving as Senior Consultant, Retail Services at the real estate agency since mid-2016. Lee, who received a master’s from the University of Dundee, started her property career as a management trainee and analyst at brokerage Savills in Beijing, after working as a domestic energy assessor at DRIVE Enterprises in Britain.
Nitish Tiwary has stepped down from JLL, after nearly six years at the property brokerage, to take a new role as Head of Human Resources, Asia at conference and exhibition organiser ITE Group, based in Hong Kong. Tiwary served as an HR Business Partner at the Associate Director level at JLL in Singapore for a year, before moving to Hong Kong to become HRBP Local Director of Regional Accounts and Transitions APAC in 2013. He previously held a variety of HR positions at Thomson Reuters and HSBC.
Nicole Xiong is now Marketing Manager for British residential builder Barratt Homes, based in Shanghai, after leaving Savills, where she served as Marketing Executive since August 2016. At the real estate consulting firm, Xiong worked in the International Property department, where she was responsible for planning and organising marketing events and advertising. The Sichuan University graduate has also worked at AC Homes in Shanghai.
