Southeast Asia remains the most active data centre development region in Asia Pacific, with digital infrastructure platforms boosting their operational capacity in Malaysia alone by 80 percent in the 12 months ending 30 June, making the country the region’s most dynamic market, according to Cushman & Wakefield. Jakarta is also exhibiting a strong growth trajectory, with a 35 percent increase in operational capacity during the first half of 2024.
Having acquired three data centres in the Philippines in July, NASDAQ-listed Equinix is now establishing a presence in a fourth Southeast Asian market after having entered Malaysia in November 2022 through a $40 million investment in a hyperscale facility in Johor. That Malaysian initiative followed shortly after the company made a $74 million commitment to an Indonesia facility in central Jakarta.
To learn more about the opportunities and challenges for hyperscale and colocation data centers in ASEAN markets, Mingtiandi welcomes leading players to the panel discussion, which is part of our fifth-annual Data Centre Forum, sponsored by Yardi. The one-hour talk on MTD TV will delve into strategies for navigating the digital infrastructure landscape and highlight key hubs positioned for AI-driven deployments.
