Panel: Opportunities for Data Centres in Japan and Korea Mingtiandi APAC Data Centre Forum 2025

2025/09/02 by Chananaun Phoolpipat Leave a Comment

Japan stood as Asia Pacific’s largest data centre market (excluding China) at the end of 2024 with nearly 1.6GW of installed capacity and Tokyo’s over 1.2GW of IT power is more than double the total available in runner-up Mumbai, making Asia’s second-largest economy a centre of attention for data centre players in the region.

While Japan dominates, the South Korean market is benefiting from the momentum behind one of Asia’s strongest tech industries with live IT capacity growing 9 percent last year and planned projects growing nearly 30 percent, according to DC Byte. Together, these two North Asian markets added roughly 770 megawatts of live IT capacity between 2020 and 2024 and now account for around one-third of APAC’s total live IT capacity, according to the industry information provider

To find out more about digital infrastructure opportunities in the two markets, Mingtiandi is proud to present a panel featuring experts from NTT Global Data Centres, DCI Data Centres, Goldman Sachs and data centre analytics provider DC Byte, as they discuss how investors and operators are finding strategies for building a cloud and AI network in Tokyo, Seoul, and beyond.

DCI Data Centres, a portfolio company of Brookfield, recently teamed up with Korea’s Koramco to develop a 40 megawatt facility in Ansan, its second project in the country. The data centre arm of Japanese telecom giant Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp earlier this year broke ground on a new 50MW facility in Shiroi, outside Tokyo. Meanwhile, Goldman Sachs has lined up its first Asia project with a 120MW facility in Fukuoka through a joint venture with Asia Pacific Land.
