According to local media, a malfunction occurred as the elevator was going up and it began to accelerate until it reached the top of the 34-storey structure. Local firefighters were called to the scene to attempt to rescue survivors from the wreckage, however, no survivors were found.

According to unnamed sources, the elevator had a capacity of 12 people.
