Digital Realty has formed a 50:50 joint venture with Singapore’s Bersama Digital Infrastructure Asia to develop and operate data centres across Indonesia, marking the US giant’s entry into Southeast Asia’s biggest economy.
The JV took over two Jakarta facilities held by BDIA’s Bersama Digital Data Centres unit, which is based in the Indonesian capital, the partners said Tuesday in a release. BDDC now operates as Digital Realty Bersama, extending the Austin-based trust’s PlatformDIGITAL co-location offering into one of the region’s fastest-growing data centre markets.
NYSE-listed Digital Realty contributed $100 million to the JV for a 50 percent stake in the data centres and the adjacent land to support further expansion. The trust will also receive property management and development fees from the venture.
“This JV combines Digital Realty’s global data centre expertise and scale with BDDC’s local market knowledge and robust connectivity, creating a unique value proposition for our customers,” said Serene Nah, Digital Realty’s head of Asia Pacific.
Jakarta Expansion Plan
Digital Realty Bersama owns and runs a connected campus that includes a newly launched data centre in central Jakarta, dubbed CGK11, and a West Jakarta facility, CGK10. Initially launched with 5 megawatts of IT load capacity, CGK11 is expected to support up to 32MW through its next phase of expansion, the company said.

BDIA’s shareholders include Provident Capital Partners, Saratoga Investama Sedaya, Distro Hub and a Macquarie Asset Management-led consortium. The MAM consortium first acquired a minority stake in BDIA in 2022 for $610 million.
BDDC CEO Angelo Syailendra and chairman Setyanto Hantoro are continuing as leaders of Digital Realty Bersama, with Krishna Worotikan, formerly of Microsoft Indonesia, joining as chief financial officer.
“The launch of Digital Realty Bersama marks an exciting next chapter in Indonesia’s digital evolution,” Setyanto said. “We look forward to a close partnership between Digital Realty and BDIA to build the vital infrastructure underpinning Indonesia’s burgeoning digital economy.”
APAC Footprint Grows
Digital Realty managed 300MW of existing capacity in Asia Pacific as of last June, with the majority of those facilities located in developed markets including Japan, Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong and Australia.
The trust unveiled its inaugural India project in early 2024 with the launch of the first phase of a 100MW campus under its Digital Connexion joint venture with Canadian investment giant Brookfield and Jio Platforms, the telecom unit of Indian conglomerate Reliance Industries.
In Japan, Digital Realty has a 50:50 JV with Mitsubishi Corporation, with that partnership having commenced construction last May of a third data centre at its NRT campus in Chiba prefecture near Tokyo, just days after opening a 34MW facility on the same campus.
