A senior departure at a struggling Chinese developer leads this week’s review of personnel moves in Asia Pacific, with China Vanke’s former chairman bowing out at age 61. Also in our column this week are a new partner at Ares and a change of chairman at Macquarie’s data centre unit.
China Vanke announced on 8 January that the company’s former chairman Yu Liang has applied to resign from his role as an executive director and executive vice president of the company due to having reached retirement age. Now 61, Yu had stepped down from his chairman position with the mainland developer in January last year as Vanke’s top shareholder, Shenzhen Metro, moved to take more direct control of the troubled company.
Former CapitaLand executive Gabriel Fong has joined Ares Management in Hong Kong as a partner with the company’s Asia credit unit, according to a LinkedIn update. Fong joins the fund manager after having spent just under two years at CapitaLand, where he had served as a managing director in charge of the company’s special opportunities group. The Cambridge graduate also has previous experience with Albamen Capital Partners and VAW Capital.
Macquarie Technology Group announced on 7 January that it has appointed Lisa Brock as chairman of the digital infrastructure division of the Australian finance giant, after the former Qantas executive first joined the board as a non-executive director three years ago. Brock is taking over the chair role from Peter James, who is retiring from the board of directors after 13 years, including 11 years at the helm.
Sharad Gohil has left his role as managing director and chief executive officer of India warehouse developer and operator Indospace, according to a LinkedIn update. Gohil wrapped up a decade at Indospace at the end of 2025 and has not yet announced a new role. The former Apollo Global Management executive had taken over the CEO postion at the Everstone, RealTerm and GLP-backed company in late 2024 when former chief Brian Oravec resumed an executive role at RealTerm.
Kaisa Group Holdings co-president, chief operating officer and executive director Li Haiming has resigned from the company with effect from 5 January, according to an announcement to the Hong Kong stock exchange that day. Now approximately 47, Li is ending his 23-year career at the Shenzhen-based developer due to health reasons, according to the statement. Li had been named co-president and COO of the company in 2020, when he joined Kaisa’s board.
Jacqueline Chow has been promoted to principal with Stonepeak in Hong Kong, according to a LinkedIn update. Chow took her step up at the infrastructure-focused private equity firm this month after joining the company four years ago as a vice president. Before signing up with Stonepeak the University of Manchester graduate had spent more than eight years with Macquarie Group in London and Hong Kong.
Nicola Tang has joined Japan hospitality investment specialist Raion Capital as head of investment, based in Hong Kong, according to a LinkedIn update. Tang joins the company co-founded by Roy Yip of R Hotel Group and James Wong of Chiney Group after more than three years with Dash Living, where she had served as head of new projects with the serviced living operator. Tang also has previous experience with Butterfly Hospitality Group and CBRE.
Amrith Chugh has joined the real assets investment and asset management team at Mapletree Investments in Bengaluru, according to a LinkedIn update. Chugh took up his role at the unit of Singapore state investment firm Temasek Holdings this month after more than three years as a senior associate with the India unit of European industrial developer Panattoni, and also has previous experience with Horizon Industrial Parks.
