Asia Real Estate People in the News 2020-01-28

With Lunar New Year celebrations wrapping up in most parts of the region, Asia’s real estate professionals are already heading back to work this week, with many trying on new roles for the mouse year. In Singapore CBRE, JLL and Colliers have rotated through a set of project management professionals, while one of the most prominent real estate academics in the city adds a global role to his resume. Meanwhile up on the mainland, a veteran mall manager gets a promotion and a project management professional decides that Lithuania may be more comfortable than Shanghai as we get ready to head into February.

fergal harris JLLJLL has appointed Fergal Harris as its new Head of Australia Capital Markets, with the veteran finance professional set to move from Singapore to Sydney next month to take on the new role, according to an announcement by the company. In his position at the head of investment transactions for JLL in Australia, Harris will focus on strengthening client relationships and developing new business lines, in addition to his existing regional responsibilities leading the firm’s debt and financial advisory teams. Harris had joined JLL in 2017 from Standard Chartered Bank, and also has previous experience with First Abu Dhabi Bank.

peter trollopePeter Trollope has joined CBRE in Singapore as a Senior Managing Director and Head of Projects for the property consultancy’s Asia Pacific Advisory team, according to an update to his LinkedIn profile. Trollope joins the brokerage after more than eight years at competitor JLL, where he had served most recently as Head of Sales and Accounts for Asia Pacific looking after corporate clients from large multinationals.

saacketh chawlaSaacketh Chawla has signed up with JLL in Singapore as an Executive Director in charge of Global Accounts with the company’s Corporate Solutions division. Chawla moved to JLL from Colliers International, where he had spent 12 years, including serving most recently as Head of Project Management for Asia, after previously filling the role of Deputy Managing Director for India at the consultancy.

joseph ooiNational University of Singapore professor Joseph Ooi has been elected President of the International Real Estate Society. The top position at the global industry body come in addition to Ooi’s full time work as Deputy Director for Development at NUS’ Institute of Real Estate and Urban Studies and Vice-Dean for Academics at the University’s School of Design and Environment and Director of the Executive Certificate program in Real Estate Finance (ECREF).

raymond ipRaymond Ip has stepped up to Deputy Director for Asset Management at Hong Kong-listed developer Hang Lung Properties, where he looks after the company’s projects in Jinan and Tianjin, according to an update to his LinkedIn profile. The promotion comes over two years after Ip joined Hang Lung from New World Development’s K11 Concepts division, where he had served as Assistant General Manager for South China.

jennie qiuJennie Qiu had been promoted to Property Manager at Watsons in Singapore – just under one year after joining the pharmacy and personal products retailer as an Assistant Property Manager. Before joining Watsons in 2019, Qiu had spent more than a year with the Markets team at JLL in Singapore as a Senior Executive, and the National University of Singapore graduate also has previous experience at Cushman & Wakefield and Colliers International.

yevgen syvodidYevgen Syvodid has started the new year on a new continent, leaving his role at Colliers International in Shanghai to head to Lithuania where he has taken up the role of Business Development Manager at Girteka Logistics. While still in China’s commercial capital, Syvodid had served as a Business Development Manager at Colliers for more than two years, after joining the company in 2017 as part of its takeover of project management firm SIP.
