AXA IM, UBS, Development Bank of Japan to Speak at Mingtiandi Tokyo Forum Next Month

With the Mingtiandi Tokyo Forum less than a month away, some 20 speakers have agreed to appear at the event next month at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in the Japanese capital.

The full-day event is happening in Tokyo on 12 November with more than 200 senior industry executives expected to attend, while another 300 more witness the programme online via MTD TV.

Highlighting the programme are spotlight interviews with executives from Warburg Pincus, GLP, ESR and Deloitte Tohmatsu Group, while a series of panel discussions will explore Japan’s commercial, industrial, residential and hospitality sectors as well as its capital markets.

Warburg Pincus, GLP, UBS and AXA

The forum opens with a keynote panel which takes an overview of opportunities and challenges in Japan’s real estate markets, featuring Hajime Watanabe, president and representative director with UBS Japan Advisors and Laurent Jacquemin, Head of Asia Pacific for the real assets division of AXA IM Alts, with more speakers to be named in the coming days.

Following that panel, Mingtiandi founder Michael Cole will sit down for a spotlight interview session on opportunities in Japan’s life science and R&D real estate markets with Warburg Pincus principal, Tag Yuxiang; Lendlease Japan chairman and executive director for development partnerships, Andrew Gauci and Shigeko Mizutani, a managing director with the valuation advisory and consulting services division for Japan at CBRE.

In the day’s second spotlight session, the attendees will hear from Yoshiyuki Chosa, president for Japan at GLP Capital Partners as he shares about the company’s history building one of the country’s premier industrial portfolios, as well as its plans for future growth.

Wrapping up the morning sessions is a panel focused on Japan’s commercial markets, featuring Takashi Imanaga, general manager for real estate finance at Mizuho Bank; Christopher Handte, chief executive officer with Tokyo Trust Capital and Taku Yamaumi, partner and head of Japan with LVMH-affiliated L Catterton Real Estate.

ESR, Alyssa Partners and ORIX

The afternoon sessions at the Mingtiandi Tokyo Forum start off with a spotlight interview featuring ESR co-founder and co-CEO Stuart Gibson, as the veteran executive shares from his experiences building an industrial developer into a real asset manager focused on Asia Pacific’s new economy.

A panel on investment in hotels and lodging in Japan featuring Seth Sulkin, president and chief executive of Pacifica Capital KK and Gary Kwok, chief executive of Axe Management, with additional speakers expected to join the panel shortly.

A session on Japan’s REIT and private capital markets sectors includes Hayato Tsuji, a general manager with the real estate finance department at the Development Bank of Japan and Masakuni Taka, a senior director for investment with the private assets division of ORIX Life Insurance Corporation, among other speakers.

Appearing in the residential investment panel will be Chedli Boujellabia, managing partner and CEO of one of the most prolific deal makers in the sector, Alyssa Partners, while the industrial panel features Ross Antoci, co-founder and principal with Macquarie-backed Unified Industrial.

The day’s programming will conclude with a spotlight session with Tomoko Sakai, a tax partner with Deloitte Tohmatsu Tax Co; Kazutaka Inoue, a manager with Deloitte Tohmatsu Risk Advisory and Yuki Sakamoto, a partner with DT Legal Japan as the Deloitte Tohmatsu Group members provide expert advice for investors navigating the Japanese market.
