Panel: Opportunities for Data Centres in Japan and Korea MTD TV APAC Data Centre Forum 2024

2024/09/22 by Danita Phaopat Leave a Comment

Despite regulatory challenges in developing large-scale data centers in South Korea’s Seoul Metropolitan Area, total server facility capacity is projected to surge to 3.2 gigawatts by 2027, marking a 2.4-fold increase from 2023, according to Savills Korea. At the same time, smaller-scale edge data centers in urban areas are gaining traction to serve industries demanding lower latency, such as AR/VR, autonomous driving, IoT, and OTT services.

As the largest data center market by revenue in the Asia Pacific region, Japan is expected to grow at a rate of 10.8 percent by 2027, according to JLL. Global players continue to expand their portfolios in Japan to capitalise on the trend of local companies and government agencies migrating their IT workloads to cloud data centers, including ESR’s $2 billion flagship data center project in Osaka.
