Graeme Torre APG

Graeme Torre, managing director and head of real estate for Asia Pacific at APG Asset Management

Graeme Torre, managing director and head of real estate for Asia Pacific at APG Asset Management, is among the four industry leaders speaking in the keynote panel of the Mingtiandi Hong Kong Focus Forum on 27 June. Tickets to the event are available via the Register link below while supplies last.

Asia’s real estate markets are rapidly transforming from their traditional reliance on trades of office and retail assets to developing platforms in higher yielding sectors, with Dutch pension fund manager APG Asset Management among the most active players in the region in recent years.

Under the leadership of managing director Graeme Torre since 2017, APG has backed ventures in rental residential, logistics, data centres and life sciences in markets ranging from Australia to South Korea.

To understand the forces transforming real estate investment in Asia Pacific, Mingtiandi has invited Torre to join the keynote panel which opens its Hong Kong Focus Forum on 27 June, for a discussion of the macro forces and individual transactions which are driving change.

The forum, which is expected to attract 250 guests, will be the largest gathering of institutional real estate investors in Hong Kong since 2019, and will also feature speakers from Blackstone, Link REIT, Warburg Pincus and PAG. Tickets to the forum, which is sponsored by Yardi, are available by registering via the link above.

High-Yielding Sectors

APG announced its latest APAC bet late last month when the Amsterdam-based institution said it was joining with its compatriots at Bouwinvest to form an A$1.5 billion ($980 million) partnership with the principals of student housing specialist Scape Australia to develop and acquire assets in the emerging build-to-rent sector Down Under.

Extra Space Singapore

Last year APG teamed with CapitaLand Investment to buy out Extra Space (Source: Extra Space)

That deal was announced just a half year after APG backed a China-based value-add logistics fund managed by GLP as it reached a $1.2 billion first closing.

During 2022 APG also rapidly expanded a joint venture in China with Singapore healthcare-focused private equity firm CBC Group as the duo picked up three mainland life science assets within four months.

The firm also got a slice of Asia’s rapidly expanding self-storage sector in October, as it teamed with CapitaLand Investment to buy out Singapore-based operator Extra Space in a $810 million transaction.

Two Decades in Asia

Before joining APG in 2017, Torre was a managing director with Invesco Real Estate for six years, after it took over the operations of AIG Global Real Estate, where he had led the firm’s property business in Asia since 2005.

The graduate of University College Dublin also has previous experience with Janus Henderson Investors covering the Asia region.

Torre is a member of APG’s Global Real Estate Management Team and its Global Real Estate Investment Committee as well as being a member of the APG Asset Management Committee for Investment Proposals.
