Leading this week’s roundup of high-profile job changes in Asia’s real estate industry, a veteran project manager has joined a London-based consultancy to grow its offices across north Asia. Meanwhile, a co-working expert is trying his hand at another hot segment of the sharing economy, co-living, while a real estate investment specialist is taking a new job at one of China Inc’s biggest subsidiaries in the US. Robert Jones has joined asset management and construction consultancy Currie and Brown as Director of Project Management for North Asia. In his new role, Jones will be charged with growing the London-based firm’s project management team across its north Asian offices, including seven locations in China. Jones is looking forward to leveraging his network of contacts in the region to build the business, as well as to developing a business plan for the expanding division of the 141-year-old company. Prior to taking up this latest appointment the experienced engineering executive had managed the construction of a new data centre in Hong Kong for data centre developer Global Switch, and previously served as an Executive Director with Cushman & Wakefield’s project management division for Asia. Jones also has experience in the region with Gammon, JLL and the M+W Group.
Brian Lau is joining Hong Kong-based real estate private equity firm Emerald Lake as Vice President for Projects. The experienced project manager, who previously worked for co-working operator naked Hub, will lead the delivery of properties across the region for Emerald Lake’s Weave Co-Living platform. Lau’s expertise includes supervising greenfield and brownfield developments and refurbishment projects across a variety of real estate assets internationally. Emerald Lake, newly founded by APG Asset Management veteran Sachin Doshi, focusses on investing in innovative real estate businesses in Asia Pacific.
Calvin Wong is stepping into a new role as an Investment Associate at China Construction America this month. Based in Jersey City, New Jersey, the US subsidiary of China State Construction and Engineering Corp (CSCEC) was recently ranked as the 37th largest contractor in the US. Wong brings an extensive background in real estate investment including working as Acquisition Associate at Brooklyn-based investment management firm Cycamore Capital, where he underwrote and performed financial modelling for over 20 multifamily investment deals in New York City. Before that, the graduate of National Taiwan University and New York University served as Chief Investment Officer at Blue Haven Investments Limited.
Bei Deng is now Senior Manager at China Fortune Land Development in Chengdu. The graduate of Sichuan University joined the Beijing-based developer after working at international property consultancy JLL since 2012 in a series of roles including Senior Analyst and Senior Manager. Deng will also bring some overseas experience to her new job at the industrial park-focussed developer, as she studied Hospitality and Tourism Management at San Diego State University and interned at Disney World in Orlando, Florida.
Lai (Sylvia) Xue has moved on from the agency world to take the role of Research Manager, Capital Deployment at Prologis, the world’s biggest warehouse owner, in Shanghai. Before joining the California-based logistics REIT in September, Xue worked at global real estate agency JLL in a variety of research, analysis and consulting roles since 2013. Most recently, Xue managed the firm’s China logistics research team, tracking 30 logistics markets and more than 500 grade A warehouses on a quarterly basis. The graduate of Shanghai’s Fudan University also achieved a master’s in engineering and industrial management at Duke University in the US.
Wei Qin has moved to Hong Kong to join Kering as Market Intelligence Manager, taking charge of Asia Pacific marketing intelligence and strategies for the Kering Real Estate team. Qin joined the Paris-based international luxury group – owner of Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent – last month, after working for global real estate advisory CBRE in Shanghai since 2013, most recently holding the title of Senior Manager. The Taiyuan University graduate received an MS in civil engineering at Columbia University.
