CBRE Appoints Andrew Deng as Head of Western China

Los Angeles-based real estate agency CBRE has bolstered its mainland leadership team this week, with Andrew Deng taking the reins as Managing Director for Western China. Based in Chengdu, Deng will oversee the company’s platform and business lines in the region.

In his new role, which also includes responsibility for a Chongqing office, Deng reports to Ben Duncan, the company’s CEO of North Asia and President of Greater China. “Andrew’s appointment reinforces CBRE’s commitment to deepening its Greater China investment beyond the more established markets,” Duncan commented in a statement. “We will continue to bolster leadership ranks, hire local talent and build scale in growth markets to better support the evolving requirements of our diverse domestic client base and the expansion plans of our global clients.”

Deng joins CBRE from the Chengdu office of Savills, where the Guangzhou native led the rival property firm’s successful retail business. Deng oversaw a team that provided consultancy and agency services for a variety of top retail properties in Chengdu and Chongqing, including MixC projects developed by China Resources, Paradise Walk shopping malls from Longfor Properties, and the landmark Chengdu International Finance Square developed by Wharf Holdings.

Deng’s team also worked with Swire Properties and Sino-Ocean Land on the highly successful Sino-Ocean Taikoo Li Chengdu project, a lane-driven prime retail development spanning 114,000 square metres that opened in 2015.

Before Deng was brought on board, the western China leadership role at CBRE had been vacant since Philip Wu served as Managing Director for Western China from 2012 through November 2015.
