With investors struggling to source data centres in Asia Pacific, the head of a Hong Kong-based information infrastructure operator seems to have hit on a formula for creating productive service facilities from less-loved assets, and Mingtiandi has invited the industry veteran to share his secrets on MTD TV.

Braham Singh, chief executive of BDx data centres, will be appearing in a spotlight interview at 10:00 am Hong Kong time this coming Thursday, 9 September, as part of Mingtiandi’s APAC Data Centre Forum 2021, which continues to connect Asia Pacific’s real estate investment community with leading innovators in the data centre space.

During the interview, which is sponsored by Yardi, Mingtiandi founder Michael Cole will be quizzing Singh on his company’s formula for converting existing telecom data centres into industry standard server facilities, as well as how the startup has built a network across mainland China, Hong Kong and Singapore as a unit of US infrastructure fund manager I Squared Capital.

Expanding in China and Singapore

Following a model which carves out a niche by providing edge facilities and ancillary space to hyperscalers, while also serving corporate enterprises managing hybrid networks, Singh and his team have been hard at work this year notching new milestones in China and Singapore.

After acquiring a Telstra data centre in Singapore last year, BDx has now added 2MW of capacity to that Paya Lebar facility. In China, the company has expanded into greenfield development with the completion of the first phase of a 30MW data centre in Nanjing during June.

To expand their tenant base, Singh and his team have made it easier for both hyperscale clients and corporate users to locate their resources in BDx facilities. During the interview, Singh will explain how providing control applications and dashboards that allow IT teams to manage their assets remotely and to integrate private cloud, public cloud and local servers under a unified system has helped to attract end-users to his company’s facilities.

Singh will also be answering questions during the session regarding how his team works with telco operators to secure assets and then bring those facilities up to a uniform standard that creates minimally manned, automated facilities.

Sustainability Session Up Next

Following Thursday’s interview, Mingtiandi’s APAC Data Centre Forum 2021 will continue on Tuesday, 14 September with a panel dedicated to sustainable data centre solutions.

That one hour session will feature Princeton Digital Group executive vice president Chris Street, BDx chief operating officer Jeremy Yew, Baker McKenzie partner Ean Mac Pherson and JLL senior director Andrew Green sharing from their experiences helping to create data centre facilities in step with carbon mandates from global investors and end-users.

The data centre forum will conclude on 23 September with a special session focused on opportunities in the North Asia region. That panel discussion will feature BDx vice president and CEO for Greater China Bill Gao and Thomas Liu, a partner with Actis who has led the UK fund manager’s data centre investments in Greater China and Korea. More participants in the North Asia show will be named in the coming days.
