Asia Real Estate People in the News 2021-08-16

Hong Kong has seen record levels of departures from its international airport in recent months and one such trip leads Mingtiandi’s roundup of personnel moves this week as a veteran retail broker heads home to the UK.

A pair of former WeWorkers also make our list this week as Hong Kong-based Eric Schaffer takes on the challenge of establishing a tech provider’s business region-wide and Calvin Chen joins local flexible office Shanghai-based office-maker Gee.

Nick Bradstreet SavillsAfter nearly 30 years leading Hong Kong’s retail leasing scene, Nick Bradstreet is heading back to England to serve as head of Asia Pacific retail for Savills UK. Bradstreet, who has served as managing director of leasing for Savills Hong Kong since 2016, has now been with the property consultancy in the city since 1 November 1992. The entirety of his career in the Asian financial hub has been focused on the retail sector, and he has represented the likes of Apple, Lululemon, Abercrombie, DFS, Sephora and Victoria’s Secret. On the landlord side, Bradstreet has led mandates for the Venetian in Macau and Hysan Place in Causeway Bay. On his return to the UK, the University of Leicester graduate is expected to return to Hong Kong regularly to service client requirements in the region.

Eric SchafferEric Schaffer has been named chief executive officer for Asia Pacific with software maker essensys, according to a recent announcement by the London-based company. Based in Hong Kong, Schaffer is leading the establishment of an Asia Pacific presence for the maker of software and technology for the flexible workspace industry. The new role comes after the Columbia University graduate spent three years as senior director and head of real estate advisory for Asia Pacific at WeWork.

calvin chen geeChina flexible office startup Gee has hired former WeWork executive Calvin Chen to serve as vice president of real estate, according to an update on WeChat. Chen is joining Gee in Shanghai just a few months after former JLL East China boss Eddie Ng signed up with the office space provider as chief operating officer. Chen had previously spent more than three years as vice president of real estate with WeWork, as well as racking up more than 16 years with Carrefour in China.

Mayank Srivastava bdxBDx Data Centers has appointed Mayank Srivastava as chief development officer, based in Singapore, according to a LinkedIn update. Srivastava’s promotion with the Hong Kong-headquartered firm came just under two years after he joined the data centre startup to look after strategy and M&A. Prior to his enlistment with BDx, the graduate of the Indian Institute of Technology in Varanasi worked for nine years with Reliance Communications in Mumbai.

andy zeng colliersAndy Zeng has taken a step up with Colliers International in Guangzhou, where he has now been named managing director for the city, according to a company statement. Zeng assumes his new role just three months after joining the company as general manager for cultural and leisure operations, with the 17-year industry veteran set to continue those responsibilities alongside his top leadership role in the capital of Guangdong province.

Ethan Lin HarvestEthan Lin has joined Harvest Fund Management in Hong Kong as a business development manager with the company’s overseas and cross-border business unit, according to a LinkedIn update. Lin took on his new responsibilities this month after joining Harvest Global Investments earlier this year in their institutional sales division. The graduate of the Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications also has previous experience with Preqin and Transpacific Group Asia.

Yanxin Zhu GLPYanxin Zhu has signed up with GLP in Shanghai as an investment associate, where he’s involved in the industrial specialist’s platform M&A activities, according to a LinkedIn update. Zhu joined GLP last month after three years with mainland insurer China Life, where he had served most recently as an investment associate. During his time at China Life, the Columbia University graduate focused on private equity real estate fund investments.
