Starting off Holy Week here in Asia, the region’s real estate community continue to find new homes or get that long-awaited pay rise before many of us head off for a three-day weekend in Bali, or join the Songkran craziness in Phuket. This week a veteran fund manager heads back to Sydney, an agency research head jumps to the world of private equity, and much more. Read on for all the details.
Paul Gately has headed back down under to manage real estate investments for CLSA’s Fudo Capital, based in Sydney. The graduate of Western Sydney University has been appointed Head of Australia Real Estate Fund for CLSA Real Estate after serving with CLSA in Singapore for more than seven years. In Singapore Gately served as Senior Director and Regional Head of Asset Management (ex Japan) for the private equity firm. In his new role, the 30-year industry veteran is charged with sourcing and managing real estate investments for the Fudo closed-end funds, as well as for a new core fund mandate.
Kenneth Li has joined China Huarong Asset Management as a Senior Vice President, based in Hong Kong. Li signed up with the mainland “bad bank” after more than two years with Ping An Trust – a division of Chinese insurance giant Ping An. In addition to his time at Ping An, the graduate of University of Sydney and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University also has experience with Country Garden Holdings, Hong Kong Land, and Savills.
Yang Liang Chua has joined ARA Asset Management as Head of Research and Strategy for the company’s ARA Private Funds division, based in Singapore. Chua comes to the real estate investment manager after spending more than 11 years with JLL in Singapore, where he served most recently as Head of Research and Consultancy for the city, as well as Head of Research for Southeast Asia. The graduate of National University of Singapore and the University of Pennsylvania also has previous experience with Singapore’s Urban Development Authority.
Linwei He has jumped to Rockwell Automation in Shanghai as a Real Estate Manager with the US industrial automation provider’s Asia Pacific team. He becomes part of the Rockwell team after serving more than three years with fellow US corporate GE, where he was a real estate transaction leader. The graduate of Chengdu’s Southwestern University of Finance and Economics also has experience with KaiLong Real Estate Investment and JLL.
Eric Chong has been appointed as a Senior Manager with Cushman & Wakefield’s research team in Hong Kong, where he is responsible for covering the city’s commercial property markets, with a focus on the grade A office sector. The University of California at San Diego graduate previously spent more than three years with JLL’s research team in San Diego, before coming to Hong Kong with JLL last year.
Henry Sim is now CEO with Red Dot Urbanisation Development in Shanghai. Sim takes the helm at the Singaporean consultant on industry positioning, master planning, urban design, operation and management and investment after serving more than three years as an Executive Director with consultancy Surbana Jurong. The University of Technology, Sydney graduate also has experience with CBRE, Guoco Land and Ascendas in China.
