Asia Real Estate People in the News 2021-03-08

The start of March has brought a burst of people moves around the region, with a pair of Hong Kong-listed real estate developers reshuffling their boards to reflect new business alliances. This month also sees a veteran project manager return to London and Ericsson naming new global leadership for its workplace division.

Abraham Shek GoldinCash-strapped Goldin Financial announced on 28 February that it had appointed Abraham Shek Lai Him as vice chairman of the Hong Kong-listed firm, and that the member of Hong Kong’s Legislative Council is now an executive director of the company, after being a non-executive director since 2017. The move by Goldin came as the company agreed to sell its interest in a Ho Man Tin project to Great Eagle Holdings, with Shek also serving on the board of the group’s Eagle Asset Management, which manages Champion REIT.

Red Star Macalline announced to the Hong Kong stock exchange late last month that it had proposed to appoint Chen Chaohui, head of finance for Zhongrong Life Insurance Co Ltd, as a non-executive director on its board. The appointment came after Zhongrong had recently upped its stake in Red Star Macalline to more than 2 percent of the home furnishing mall developer and operator. Red Star, which is controlled by Alibaba Group, has seen its stock slide by more than 4 percent in value over the past year.

Simon BaxterSimon Baxter has headed home to the UK where he now leads the Conceptual Construction Group for Europe at Hines, according to an update to his LinkedIn profile. Baxter’s new role has him back in Europe after nearly 15 years in Asia Pacific, where he had served most recently as managing director for development and project management at Hong Kong developer Great Eagle Holdings. Earlier, Baxter spent more than 19 years with project management consultancy EC Harris, before becoming head of Singapore for Arcadis in 2013, when it acquired EC Harris.

caroline dellasegaUrban regeneration developer and asset manager Anken Group has appointed Caroline Dellasega as director of investment strategy, with the former consultancy executive set to work with co-founders David San Roman and Alexandra Chu and other members of the management team to structure new growth opportunities for the Shanghai-based firm. With Anken aiming to identify and implement strategic initiatives for direct and joint venture investments, Dellasega formerly worked as as director of strategic advisory for Knight Frank in Shanghai, and also has previous experience with Cushman & Wakefield’s capital markets team in Singapore and London.

Caroline CourtCaroline Court has been promoted to head of global workplace community and innovation with Ericsson, where she leads design of the workplace ecosystem for the Swedish telecom giant. Court took her step up this month after more than four years as head of real estate for East Asia and Oceania at the company. The University of Reading graduate also has experience at Cushman & Wakefield, as well as at KPMG and JLL.

Lip Hong YeoLip Hong Yeo has been moved up to head of global channel and alliance at BDx Data Centers in Singapore, less than one year after joining the server facility specialist. Before joining BDx in April of last year as global head of products, Yeo had spent more than eight years with Telstra Global, including serving as senior product manager with its global data centres division. The University of Portsmouth graduate also has previous experience with Singtel and the Walt Disney Internet Group.

christian glasslChristian Glassl has joined newly established Can Design Ltd as a design director with the Hong Kong-based firm, according to an update to his LinkedIn profile. Glassl is now responsible for commercial mixed-use developments and master planning projects in China, Hong Kong and Southeast Asia for the practice, after previously serving as chief urban designer with engineering firm Arup for just under two years. The Hochschule Augsburg graduate also spent 11 years with Benoy in Hong Kong.

kenneth liKenneth Li has joined the Restructuring and Special Situations Department at China Huarong (Macau) International Company Ltd this month after four years with the Hong Kong-based branch of one of China’s largest financial groups. Li takes on his new role after more than two years with China Huarong’s Direct Investment Department in the city. The London Business School graduate also has experience with PingAn Trust and Country Garden Group.
