2020/12/28 by Michael Cole Leave a Comment

The holidays are here and at least a few professionals from around Asia Pacific were lucky enough to receive new roles before the new year, including an 18-year veteran of one of China’s largest developers, who will be heading up a new hospitality business unit. We also have new personnel moves at brokerages in Hong Kong and mainland China as we prepare to close out 2020.

China Vanke is creating a new hotel and resort management business, according to local media reports, and has chosen long-time company executive Ding Changfeng to head the new subsidiary. Ding, who originally joined Vanke in 1992, will be leading the company’s efforts to provide hotel management services to hospitality asset owners, after formerly heading Vanke’s winter resorts business.

Cindy Sun - CBRECBRE announced last week that veteran industrial broker Cindy Sun has been promoted to head of advisory and transaction services for mainland China at the real estate agency. Sun’s new role comes in addition to her current responsibilities as head of industrial and logistics for the China capital markets team at CBRE. Sun had joined the US-based brokerage last year after more than seven years with rival Colliers International.

jenny chanWeWork’s former top PR person for the region has found a new career home as Jenny Chan revealed recently on her LinkedIn page that she had joined Schneider Electric in Hong Kong as vice president for global external communications. Chan had previously spent nearly two years as vice president and head of public affairs for Asia at WeWork, after joining the boom to bust shared office venture in 2017.

john yakitaHong Kong-based hotel-focused investment manager Odyssey Capital Group announced this month that John Kakita has joined the firm as managing director in charge of Japanese real estate. In his new role, Kakita is responsible for overseeing Odyssey’s real estate projects in Japan including acquisitions of new hospitality assets for the firms funds and syndicates, as well as overall management and operations, according to an announcement.

Eric ChongFormer Cushman & Wakefield researcher Eric Chong has joined Savills in Hong Kong as director of information research at the agency, according to an update to his LinkedIn profile. Chong took on the newly created position this month after leaving C&W in November. The University of California at San Diego graduate spent more than three years at Cushman and also has previous experience at JLL in Hong Kong.

sonya MikicSonya Mikič has come on board with AVI-SPL in Hong Kong as a global deployment manager with the workplace collaboration system provider.
