Mingtiandi to Lead China Outbound Investment Debate at PERE Asia Summit in HK

Mingtiandi’s lead analyst Michael Cole will be joining representatives of three of the mainland’s largest investment firms on stage at the PERE Asia Summit in Hong Kong this week to debate the future of China’s outbound real estate investment wave.

Cole will be appearing at the 450 person industry conference to take part in a debate between top real estate investors and advisors regarding the potential success of Chinese real estate investments in the US market.

In the role-playing exercise, the Mingtiandi founder is teamed with Terence Loh, Executive Director of Chinese alternative investment house CDH Investments to argue that the majority of Chinese overseas buyers of commercial real estate in the US will come to regret their purchases within five years.

Opposing Loh and Cole to argue that Chinese investors will achieve competitive returns on their US commercial property investments will be representatives of two of China’s largest investors, Lijian Chen, CEO of China Orient Summit Capital; and Greg Peng, CEO of CINDAT Capital Management.

Formerly of UBS, Chen now leads the international business group for China Orient Summit Capital, the private equity wing of Chinese bad asset bank China Orient Asset Management. Peng runs CINDAT Capital Management, an alternative investment firm affiliated with competing mainland bad asset bank China Cinda Asset Management.

The outbound investment debate will be one of the premier sessions at this year’s PERE Asia Summit, which is expected to attract 450 real estate investment leaders from over 20 countries to Hong Kong on Wednesday and Thursday of this week.

Also appearing at the event will be leading property investment figures representing firms including Aetos Capital Asia, Gaw Capital Partners, Hodges Ward Elliott, Ivanhoé Cambridge, LaSalle Investment Management, Morgan Stanley Real Estate Investing, PGGM, The Carlyle Group and UBS Asset Management.

The appearance by Cole is part of a growing series of conference contributions by the real estate analyst since he began daily publication of Mingtiandi in 2012. During the past four years, Cole has chaired key industry events including the PERE China summit in 2015, Real Estate Investment World Asia 2015 and other key meetings. The property analyst’s insights on China’s outbound investment trend, as well as the mainland retail and logistics markets have been cited in leading publications including the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg and the Australian Financial Review.
